Bicycle Playing Cards with 5 Black Box Card Games
5 New card games, Revenant and Vivant Bicycle playing cards, game cards and game pieces all bundled up in the Black Box.
Welcome to my project! My name is Brian Lee and I am a big fan of playing cards and card games. My dream is to be a game designer so I decided to create a set of playing cards and card games to go with them.
Depending on how many decks of cards your pledge level includes, it will determine which of the 5 games you will receive as a digital download at the end of the project lifespan. There are also a limited quantity of physical collector's editions available.
So lets start with the cards and please let me know if you have any questions.
1. a person who returns.
2. a person who returns as a spirit after death; ghost.
Origin: 1820–30; < French: ghost, noun use of present participle of revenir to return >
The Revenant and Vivant Playing Cards are based on an old style of French playing cards. The cards have been modified from their original design to give them a Gothic feel by using illustrations of stained glass and classic style paintings.
Each face card art depicts a story of their life and untimely death. Many of the cards are tied together through twisted plots, backstabbing and murder! Now they return from the dead to seek their vengeance upon the sole survivor; the King of Hearts!
The Revenant and Vivant Playing Card decks will be printed by the United States Playing Card Company and will feature the Bicycle logo on the tuck box. These are high quality cards, printed by a company with decades of quality behind them. All artwork has already been approved by the USPCC and the tuck box has been approved by the Bicycle legal department.
Black Box Playing Card Games - Volume 1 is a collection of 5 new playing card games and variants, to play with traditional playing cards.
With the Black Box Playing Card Games, you will have a variety of different play styles, games and variations so there is something for everyone!
Like games of skill and planning? Then Graveyard is right up your alley. Prefer games of chance? Then try your luck with House Wars. Looking for a new variation on the classic Poker game? Then the King's Favor Poker may give you the challenge you need. Like games where you can push your luck? Then play against your friends with Grave Digger. You can even play solo with Revenant King!
The physical copy of the Black Box card games is a limited edition collectors item. Initially there will only be 100 sets of this box created, though this number may increase with a stretch goal. All boxes will be signed and numbered and the two decks of cards inside the box will be numbered not only with the limited run of cards but also with the box itself. This will be the one and only time this box set will be created with this set of cards.
Every "Card Collector" pledge level will come with PDF downloads of the various games. Any game cards associated with the games will have a printable version included in the PDF of the rules.
In the base version of Graveyard, players play on teams or as individuals and try to score points. Players place cards down on the play area one at a time, creating a grid of 4 cards by 4 cards. Points are scored by getting 3 cards in a row to equal 21 or all of the same suit. The more you get with one play, the higher the points. Though it can be challenging, this is a great game to play with children as a family game.
- 1 Deck Of Cards For Each Team
- 2 Graveyard 21 Reference Cards
In the stakes version of Graveyard, the game becomes more challenging, but the rewards become greater. Now, the grid expands out to a 5 cards by 5 cards grid and when players score 21 or 3 suits in a row, it causes the other players to ante up. In addition, each player has a challenge card in front of them that they ante too. When a challenge is met by any player, they win the ante associated with that challenge.
This game is great to use with a buy-in to give real value to the tokens or play it as a coin game.
The stakes version of Graveyard comes with tokens and all the challenge cards, but you will be required to provide additional decks of cards beyond the two that are provided if you play with more than two players. All players are on their own and play with their own deck of cards. You are welcome to add additional decks of our Revenant Playing Cards to your pledge, or play with your own favorite cards; it is up to you! Perfect for those that love to collect cards here on Kickstarter.
- 1 Deck Of Playing Cards For Each Player (Black Box Includes 2 Decks)
- 6 Double Sided Challenge Cards
- 2 Graveyard 21 Reference Cards
- 2 Graveyard Challenge/Turn Reference Cards
- Plastic Chips
- Optional -Plastic Cups (Not Included)
King's Favor Poker is a new variant on a classic card game. In this card game, you purchase your cards with your chips instead of having an ante. Each round, one player has the King's Favor which gives them one of the King cards as an additional card. This gives that player the edge. Other players may start a challenge for the King's Favor by paying a tribute and playing a game of 21 (Black Jack). The winning player then gains the King's Favor and the tribute from all the players, giving them the advantage. That's not all! Players may also auction their cards instead of discarding them, giving them the opportunity to win more, but possibly giving the advantage of the poker hand to another player!
In King's Favor Poker, you have three different ways that you can gain winnings. So if Poker isn't your game, but you're great at 21, find your fame and glory in the King's Favor challenge. Or, if you love to wheel and deal, auction off those cards for a chance to rake it in.
You can use the included plastic chips with King's Favor Poker or play with your favorite set of Poker chips.
- 2 Decks Of Playing Cards
- 6 Player Cards
- 2 Poker Hand Reference Cards
- 2 Turn Reference Cards
- Plastic Chips (Or Poker Chips - Not Included)
House Wars gives a new twist on Black Jack, with that special flavor of the classic game of War. In this card game, players try and get as close to 21 without going over by using a combination of cards and dice. Each player starts with their own cards and plays to win the cards of the other players. To really spice it up, you can wager additional cards, but you don't know what you could be giving up or what you could be winning.
This is another game where you can really add to the pressure by having a buy-in.
This game also works great with the game Side Bet! (see below)
- 1 Deck Of Playing Cards For Every 3 Players
- 2 Six Sided Dice For Each Player
- 2 House Wars Turn Reference Cards
Like to play solitaire games? Then Revenant King is the game for you. You play as the King of Hearts battling though a horde of the Undead, to face your final challenge . . . The Revenant King.
The basic game of Revenant King has you setup a grid of cards that you flip over one at a time to play against in a game of 21. The card you flip over goes by dealer rules. You make your way to the opposite end of the grid to face the Revenant King. If you survive, you win. Several cards that you may face will have special abilities and affects depending on if you win or lose the attack.
Revenant King also comes with many different versions to challenge you in a multitude of ways. Some variants have you find the Revenant King among the undead or see how long you can survive against a continuous horde. Will you let chance decide your path with a roll of the dice? Can you defeat an entire of family of ghouls? Only fate can decide!
- 2 Decks Of Playing Cards
- 3 Six Sided Dice
- 1 Revenant King Turn Reference Card
Want to see how far you can push your luck? Grave Digger will give you that opportunity. In Grave Digger, each player tries to push their luck to see who can get 15 cards first.
The players create the graveyard by placing 9 cards down on the play area in a 3 card by 3 card grid. By rolling two dice, players try and match up the value of the dice with the value of the cards in the play area. Know when to stop and you collect your cards but if you push your luck too far, then you lose it all.
For rules on how to play Grave Digger, please watch the main video and download the PDF rules HERE.

My name is Brian Lee. I have been a graphic designer for almost 2 decades working in Web, GUI design and for the past 8 years, as the graphics manager for a flexographic printing company in Westfield, Indiana. I am also an Adjunct Instructor for The Art Institute of Indiana where I teach Digital Imaging and Print Production classes.
I am a big fan of board games, card games and video games. It has always been my dream to start up my own game design business and share my creations with the world.
By funding this project you will be helping in the creation of a unique set of games and playing cards as well as many more games to come. This will literally be my kick-starter into game design, development and production.
I cannot express to you how excited I am about this project. Every time I play one of my games with people and see how much fun they are having, I am thrilled to know I have created something that brings so much joy. Hopefully my project will get fully funded so I can share that joy with you.
My deepest thanks for your pledge and your support on this project. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact me through Kickstarter or my email email@example.com.
Risks and challenges
Though this is my first game project, I have spent hundreds of hours in the development of the games, graphics and research in production requirements and costs. I am confident that I have all my bases covered and everything is lined up and ready to go.
The only risks and challenges that may possibly happen are delays in production due to unforeseen circumstances. Even if costs end up being more than expected, I have the ability to cover those additional costs if need be. This project is not a source of income, it is me chasing my dream and sharing it with all of you. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me, I will be happy to address them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
