Spawn of Cthulhu's Grim Grimoire Accessory

Posted by Warpo (Creator)

It's been a big week for Legends of Cthulhu and you're probably tired of hearing it, but we can't say thank you enough for supporting our toys and our dream of building a company that tells new and exciting stories in familiar ways.

We saved our favorite accessory sneak-peek for last; The Necronomicon! Once again, this is resin prototype which is why it is white in color. The final piece will feature injection-molded color and possibly one deco (paint) hit.

Of all the accessories, this one is, arguably, the most important as it is mentioned in so many of Lovecraft's stories (including The Call of Cthulhu), which means it would have played a major role in the media that supported this line of toys in 1979-80 therefore, a Necronomicon play accessory was a must.

(If you haven't read it already, check-out Bryan's vision for a Filmation-style LoC series at io9.…)

We wanted it to be a substantial piece with rough textures and details that would show it to be a valued artifact. But at the same time, our Method Manufacturing process dictated that we keep the 1979-80 simplified aesthetic. Ultimately, Eddy delivered a book that we loved however it was so big, it didn't fit in Spawn of Cthulhu's hand! So rather than change the book, Eddy came through again and sculpted a new arm for the figure that included a more-open hand that could hold it.

We hope you enjoyed this sneak-peek at our accessories for the Legends of Cthulhu action figures. Look for more behind-the-scenes goodies in future updates. Until next time, Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.

Awwww, I was really, really hoping that the Necronomicon was going to be a retro carrying case for the figures, like the Darth Vader head one I had when I was little...only more evil.
