Whenabouts isn't our first foray into a physical-to-digital unboxing experience. In fact we've been at this for over a year, having started in the occasional gifts space with a product called Warms.
Warms are small wooden boxes that arrive via post or courier. Inside is a surprise plush character and a code leading to a personalized video from the sender (and an e-gift too, if you're lucky).
In designing Warms we focused specifically on creating a truly unboring unboxing experience. The feedback on this was incredibly positive and it inspired us to take the concept even further by adding suspense and story to the surprise and substance; to create Whenabouts.
On a practical level, the development time we put towards Warms will serve us well with Whenabouts too. We already have great relationships with partners and suppliers, and we've sourced the many various materials we'll be using. The boxes, for example, are made of beautiful, lightweight, sliver-free, and sustainably-grown paulownia wood - which we've proven to withstand a cross-country mid-winter journey through the postal system. We've also become quite experienced with our platform of linking codes to private videos, which is a core recurring element of the Whenabouts series.
With Whenabouts we've taken the R&D behind Warms and evolved it into something even better!
