A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
Hi Kickstarter! We are excited to introduce our first line of products, The Leverage Collection – American-made products that are both beautiful and functional.
Sleek and modern, these bottle openers have been stripped down to only what is essential. They are attractive design pieces that you would be proud to display on your wall or out on your bar.
The Leverage Bottle Openers are a joy to use and open bottles with little fuss or effort. They open bottles by gently flexing, but not bending the cap – a great feature for home brewers and collectors.
Each bottle opener will be cast in solid brass through a process called lost wax casting and then hand-finished. Next, they'll be sandblasted for a satin finish and sealed to protect the finish and minimize discoloration so your bottle opener will look beautiful for years to come.
Designed in our studio in Brooklyn and manufactured in a factory in Indiana. We are committed to making all of our products in the USA.
The very first iteration of the Leverage Wall-Mounted Bottle Opener was created in 2014 and has since been revised and refined dozens and dozens of times. Our bottle openers have undergone rigorous testing and have been engineered to perfection.
We will also be offering the Leverage Key Hook as a reward. This solid brass key hook is a stylish way to securely hook your key to your pants or bag. The Key Hook also opens most beer bottles. See FAQ for more info.
Each product will be available in two finishes:
*sealed to protect the natural brass color and minimize discoloration and darkening that is common with natural uncoated brass.
Leverage Wall-Mounted Bottle Opener: 1 wall-mounted bottle opener, plus 2 drywall plugs and 2 screws in a matching finish
Leverage Key Hook: 1 key hook, plus 1 jump ring and 1 flat split ring in a matching finish
In order to produce the Leverage Bottle Openers and Key Hooks, we need to have molds created so the pieces can be cast in a cost-effective and efficient way. Along with these tooling costs, we also need to meet the manufacturer's minimum order quantities, for the brass pieces as well as the packaging – all of this requires a large initial investment.
If you like what you see, then please help us make these products a reality by backing us today! Our success is also heavily dependent upon others getting the word out, so please share this project by using one of the links below! Your support is greatly appreciated!
We believe in giving back. That's why we will be donating a portion of the proceeds from every product to charity partners that fight hunger and provide clean drinking water.
We are Brooklyn-based husband and wife Mike Boylan and Danielle Pecora. We’re both designers so it seemed only natural that we would collaborate on a project one day. However, it wasn’t until our son James was born that we finally decided to take the plunge and devote more time to work on projects that we are truly passionate about.
The Leverage Collection is the first step towards realizing our dream of running our own design studio where our goal is to create American-made housewares that are made to last and as functional as they are beautiful.
We are obsessed with all things related to food, drinks, design, and travel and are excited to create more tools that inspire fellow cocktail enthusiasts, craft beer lovers, and foodies.
Risks and challenges
We have over 10 years of experience in product development and architecture, overseeing both the design and execution of projects of varying sizes and complexities. That being said, we know that there are always unknowns and unexpected delays that can happen. Because of this, we have built extra time into our timeline to accommodate any issues that may arise. We will be updating our backers every step of the way so they know what to expect and when and are confident that we will be able to meet our target fulfillment date of June 2017, if not earlier.
