chimera |kīˈmi(ə)rə (noun)
Genetics an organism composed of two or more genetically distinct tissues, as an organism that is partly male and partly female, or an artificially produced individual having tissues of several species.
What if a bunny wants to swing from trees? What if a monkey really likes carrots? What if an elephant wants to fly? What if a bat wants to be super strong?
Chimeras make all of this possible. With interchangeable ears, arms, and legs, Chimeras makes plush toys more dynamic and more fun.
Chimeras will come in pairs, so that kids can start exchanging body parts immediately. The first two pairs are Monkey & Bunny and Elephant & Bat.
We have selected a great plush toy manufacturer. We've worked with them in the past, and we're confident in their quality. They made the samples in our video, and the factory is ready to begin production immediately. We're confident that the initial run will ship this November, in time for holiday gifts.
Please note: the colors of the samples in the video are not the final production colors. The final colors will be as close as possible to the colors in the concept art/renderings.
We're raising money on Kickstarter for our initial production run. The factory has minimum order quantities based on the fabric they have to purchase, and we need to create a custom injection mold for our ball-and-socket popping connector.
Rich and I are two designers based in Portland, Oregon. I have a background in product design, with experience at Apple and Mattel (Yes, I designed Barbies). Rich has a background in graphic design (Those are his kids in the video). We met in architecture graduate school, and we started a firm that does all three: graphic design, product design and architecture.
We also manufacture and distribute our own products. Our first company was iLoveHandles, an Apple accessories company. Chimeras is our first toy.
