Campaign cancelled

Hi everyone,

Sorry for my recent silence. I needed time to think about how to move forward with the campaign, and it saddens me to say that I have decided to end the COMMODORE 64: FOR THE LOVE OF A MACHINE Kickstarter campaign today. There are two main reasons:

1) There's 1/3 of the target missing with only one week to go. Needless to say, the campaign has not been going in the direction that I've hoped for. I admit defeat and move on.

2) Community drama. I don't want to get into details because I'm very tired of it, but let's just say that drama kills creativity and drama takes the 'fun' out of fun. It's time to do something else.

A big thanks to all the backers that came on to support the campaign! A special thanks goes to all family members, friends of 25+ years and sceners who have supported it. I will be forever grateful to all of you.

Andreas

Really gutted that this project won't be finished. Hopefully it will at a later point, but I was really looking forward to it.

Truly gutted at the cancellation of the project. I understand why you've now 'stood back' from the webmaster position at C64.COM

If you every want to restart the project then I'd be interested in backing again.

A sad day for both Andreas (who has already contributed so much).... and ironically given the infighting, the C64 scene which has not so much shot it's self in the foot here as sawed off both feet.... depressing.

Not good news mate. I was already imagining the wonderful book in my living room and me sharing the info with my kids.
Still, you can make this a reality in the future, who knows?! If you do bring the project alive, drop me an email, I will back you up in the blink of an eye

      Indeed very very sad news.

      Big hug Andreas.

I was surprised to see this cancellation, it had a fair shot at making it still. It would've been only just, but still. Kickstarters always get most of their pledges in the first few and the last few days. It's not uncommon to get a third of the funding in the last couple of days, so you still had a chance. Then I see in the comments what's been going on, and I get it. If this is what you'll be dealing with throughout the project... I really didn't think the retroscene was like this. It's always been supportive and helpful in everything I've seen. So saddened to see this. :(

Sorry to hear this Andreas :(

I hope you'll try again, when/if you do I still want to contribute all I can.

Andreas, I'm really sorry you decided to cancel the campaign. I really would have loved to see the book become reality as imho it was a very promising project with very interesting and exclusive content. I also like to say that I hope all this doesn't drag you down too much. Keep your heads up! I still believe in your project and who knows ... I also believe in second chances. :) Wish you all the best!

Dude, sorry to hear that a bunch of self appointed saviours of the internet spoiled this. Reading the comments I can understand your decision. Probably spectrum owners!

This was bad news! Miraculous things tend to happen the last two days on a Kickstarter, who knows - this one could actually have made it. I know several who have this on their watch list and were going to support it. And about the handful pedantic nitpickers; so sad they managed to affect you. As they say, this is why we can't have nice things... Shame on them for acting like six-year olds. The book would have been awesome, hope to see you resurrect the project in the future.

That is a very sad announcement. I hope the book will get another chance at some point in time, as it looked really promising. Wish you all the best Andreas!

oh come on - just because of one or two ultra-long-blabla backers (why can't they write their opinion in one or two lines...) you have cancelled that book? that's so sad. I'm really really very disappointed just because that book would've been great for sure.

Very very sad to see this Kickstarter being cancelled: hope it can be coming back in the future. I was really looking for this book.

Sorry to hear this has been cancelled. I hope that in the future you will try again. I hadn't read the comments so I didn't know about the drama etc but just remember that although there may be a few vocal people being negative, you still have many backers who support you. Hope you just take a break and then come back stronger!

Saddened by the cancellation as was looking forward to the book. I mirror the comments below , if you can find the energy in the future I'll be a definite backer (without the rh notes even !!).

I also hope you departure from c64.com just yesterday is not related to this as a few people always seem to ruin it for the rest and we need people like you with the energy in the retro scene.

      All the best !!

Bummer. Never read any of the comments or commented myself before, so I have no clue what the drama is about. But, as a backer of some ~40 different projects I can saw that most kickstarters seem to get most of their money in the first 2 days... and last 2 days. So I think it's possible it would have maybe made it.

I am so sorry that this became a hassle for you, I, for one, was very much looking forward to it. I appreciate your passion and wish you the best in future endeavors.
