The Oyster Bed is designed to make preparing grilled or baked oyster dishes easier, whether using pre-shucked oyster meat or cooking on the half shell. Its unique system of channels filter the renderings into a common reservoir as the oysters cook – perfect for bread dipping!
Our patent pending design can be used to prepare and serve countless dishes with unmatched presentation and versatility. The Oyster Bed can be put in the oven, grilled on a pit, or put in the fridge or freezer to serve cold dishes such as oysters on the half shell, cocktail shrimp, or deviled eggs.
Armetale® is one of the world’s foremost “sand casted” metals. Its distinctive manufacturing process allows for the forging of the most uniquely designed cooking pieces on the market. This proprietary, non-toxic metal alloy has survived the test of time, maintaining it’s leading position on the market since it was developed in 1963.
Rarely in their century-old history has Wilton-Armetale® partnered with outside entrepreneurs! Cheers to them for embracing open innovation and promoting entrepreneurship and invention!
The Oysterman Outing is a once in a lifetime South Louisiana experience. After working out a good weekend for everyone, the Waller brothers will meet you at the New Orleans International Airport and bring you to dinner at Drago’s restaurant – where the original chargrilled oyster was invented in the early 1990s.
After sharing your choice of New Orleans cocktails in the French Quarter, you’ll be treated to a stay at the Hilton Riverside – right in the middle of EVERYTHING the area has to offer.
The next morning you’ll have Café Au Lait and beignets at Café Du Monde, a New Orleans tradition since 1862. Next you’ll tour P&J Oysters - the oldest oyster shucking house in the United States and learn about the valuable conservation projects being planned by the Gulf Oyster Industry Council (GOIC), ORA Estuaries, and numerous other conservation non-profits.
After that, you’ll cross the Mississippi River along the same route as those reclaimed oyster shells to join the Vujnovich family for the chance to learn from 3rd and 4th generation oyster fisherman just how much the oyster means to our nation’s valuable estuaries. You’ll learn what these families have overcome after Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. You’ll learn the risks they take to “plant” an oyster reef in an estuary, unable to harvest for three to four years.
Finally, you’ll watch as they harvest some of the largest and tastiest oysters in North America and serve them to you fresh, any way you like. The Waller brothers will be there to tell their story and cook – just for you – some of their favorite dishes on The Oyster Bed. By the time you’re done, you’ll be in love with the oyster, The Oyster Bed, and Louisiana culture....guaranteed.
Split between four people, this isn’t a bad deal....but we aren’t about to tell you how to choose who gets Le Perle.
With the Louisiana coast losing a football field of land per hour in coastal erosion, there has never been a more important time for the creation of manmade oyster reefs, which duplicate many of the benefits of natural reefs. These reefs protect our coast by reducing the energy of high power waves by as much as 76 to 93 percent and by being sustainable, unlike traditional man made bulkheads, which require costly maintenance. Study after study has shown that restored oyster reefs are key to promoting healthy fisheries, which translate into a healthy regional and national economy. Worldwide production of oysters totals nearly 3.7 million tons, which is roughly 7,400,000,000 pounds of shell.
Despite recycling initiatives, our nation’s oyster bars and restaurants still struggle to recycle all of their inventory, so tens of billions of oyster shells end up in landfills across our country. Meanwhile, oyster fishermen transport hundreds of thousands of tons of crushed concrete and limestone to our coastlines in an attempt to create the foundations for future oyster reefs.
The Oyster Bed helps solve this problem. Because it gives the chef an opportunity to use pre-shucked oysters, it enables those stockpiles of shells at shucking houses to return to the nation’s valuable estuaries via the very oyster fishermen who harvested this keystone species in the first place!
Throughout the product and concept development phase of putting together The Oyster Bed LLC, we were BLESSED to meet and work with some of the oyster industry’s most respected fishermen, environmentalists, engineers, and activists.
Over the last three years we have, with the help of some divine intervention, come up with a conservation model that we think can be replicated along the coastal estuaries that span not only the Gulf of Mexico, but also the Atlantic, Pacific, and our country’s largest coastal estuary – the Chesapeake Bay.
As we continue to raise awareness about the value of the oyster, we will continue to assemble the most experienced and capable team of conservationists to develop and execute this one of a kind project. Our goal is to create teams, then projects, in all of our nations’ most valuable estuaries.
With little push, news of The Oyster Bed has spread quickly. We’ve already made significant strategic partnerships and garnered unbelievable interest. Some of the notable events and brands that we’re working with include:
In the coming weeks you will have an opportunity to learn more about us. We consider ourselves among the most fortunate citizens of this great nation for having been a part of the best family and community one could ever ask for. Not only are we indebted to kin and community, but also the four key families who have helped us make it all happen.
Come back and visit this Kickstarter page in the coming weeks to begin learning more about each of them. By the time this campaign is over, you’ll know why we feel so blessed and now consider the Follettes, the Sunseris, the Vujnovich's and the Ortegos part of this big Oyster Bed family.
Risks and challenges
With Tommy having planned a wide spectrum of military operations, from those involving small elite teams of Force Recon Marines in hostile environments to other massive division level 5000+ man exercises, we are no strangers to detailed planning. Combined with Adam’s creativity and innovation, we are confident that we will successfully plan and execute this campaign.
Our strategic partnership with Wilton-Armetale® has allowed for us to guarantee that early backers will receive their orders before the holidays, making The Oyster Bed a one of a kind gift to cap off 2014!
As with any new adventure, we expect there to be some speed bumps along the way, but we are committed to working tirelessly to ensure that this is a smooth ride. You can rest assured that we will keep you updated all along the way!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
