We're two guys who came together and created the first online run mapping website back in 2002. The website is free to use and we have an amazing iPhone app.
WalkJogRun's critically acclaimed app has been downloaded over 40,000 times since it launched and we've got Android users hammering on our door to port the app to the Android App Marketplace. This video demonstrates the features of the current release of our iPhone app but mid-April we're launching a huge update to add the most accurate GPS tracking of any existing app out there, training diaries and the ability to create routes and we figured Android users deserved a piece of the action!
We work on WalkJogRun in our spare time, and both have full-time jobs outside of the company. Help us bring this app to Android phones!
We've received thousands of emails from fans requesting an Android version of the app. We would love to make this happen and be able to fund not only the initial release, but ongoing development. We've found some great developers, and realize that in order to develop this app, we need some funding. This funding will support the Android app to make sure it is in constant development, and that we can add new features you request. We simply do not have enough capital to develop an Android app.
What We're Raising
The money we raise through Kickstarter will go primarily towards funding the development and initial release of the WalkJogRun Android app.
The funding will also go towards hiring Android developers for ongoing maintenance.
Why are we raising so much?
We have spent 200 hours of development time on every update to the iPhone app. It takes 30 hours of development time, per screen in an app, at an average of $100 per hour. We have about 10 screens on our iPhone app, coming to about 30,000 in needed funding. We will also donate $1 to every $1 that is donated, whether in the form of money or development time ourselves. There are costs involved in the incentives, which will go towards this as well.
What happens if we exceed our Kickstarter goal?
If we do, that will be amazing! We'll be able to fund future development, and increase the number of developers working on the project. This means an earlier release date. If we raise more money, we'll be able to fund more testing and add more features outside of the initial plan. Additional funding will help us to support more Android devices as well.
Thank you so much to all our pledgers! If you'd like to see this app come to life on the Android platform, be sure to spread the word!
