When I told people we were doing a football story they couldn't believe we'd be so stupid (though we'd done plenty of stupid things in the past). Comic fans just didn't like football. Ah, but it's not just football, we'd tell them. There's an alien in it. A big red alien. With horns. And they would shake their heads sadly, or tut, or attempt to take our temperature.
By we I mean longtime Batman and Lobo favourite ALAN GRANT and I, who have been writing comics for nealy 50 years and co-created, among other things, Judge Dredd. Rok of the Reds would be a new departure, something totally different - and, with the inclusion of an alien protagonist, full of crazy, exciting possibilities. Who says comic fans wouldn't be able to wrap their heads round it?
In truth a few still doubt our sanity, but it has been very pleasing to see our readership steadily growing and the enthusiasm they display for the book, especially among longtime haters of any sport. The recent news that Rok of the Reds has been shortlisted by the Scottish Book Trust for Teenage Book of the Year, 2020, is very gratifying.
So we had to do a sequel. There was never a thought in my mind that we wouldn't. We have the same very gifted team back with 2000AD stars DAN CORNWELL and ABBY BULMER on art and colours. Even our letterer JIM CAMPBELL has an Eisner nomination!
We're so confident you're going to love ROK THE GOD as much as we do that we're offering you a SNEAK PEEK. Follow this link for a FREE digital view of Chapter 1 - 20 plus pages in glorious colour - then come and join the Rok team!
