Don't worry, you can still back this project! We will be setting up a system called 'BackerKit' where you can alter your current pledge, insert your details (postage address, email, etc...) and select what add-ons you want. Backer kit will be open for (about) 2 months after the KS.

All four of Rachel’s ears twitched with nervous energy as she & Maximus searched the Nephilim gene lab. They’d been hired to steal data, but the bloody dissection tables & the occasional vat filled with murky liquid hadn’t been part of the job description.
Out of morbid curiosity, Rachel turned her gun-mounted flashlight onto the nearest vat. It was massive, at least two meters tall & filled with an opaque green fluid. She approached & peered into the murky depths. "What could possibly be growing inside these?" she whispered.
Rachel stumbled back as she received a partial answer. A black claw, bigger than her head, had reached out of the liquid & slammed into the glass wall of the vat. Just as abruptly, it disappeared back into the depths of the tank.
“Don’t worry Rach,” Maximus grunted, barely glancing at the source of the disturbance. “Nothing can bust out of those vats. They’re made of two-inch-thick transparent synth steel, it would take…”
Max & Rachel’s hearts simultaneously skipped a beat as they both heard the crunching noise of something breaking underneath Max’s huge combat boots. Rachel swung her torch to the ground & saw scattered fragments of metal and glass.
“What's that stuff?” she asked, glancing at her partner. Maximus hesitated before answering.
“Two-inch-thick transparent synth steel.”
Fragged Empire is a tabletop RPG setting & rules, set in a far future 'post, post-apocalyptic' setting. Your people have survived 100 years of brutal tribalism & savagery & are just now emerging back into space.
Set in the style of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien, television series Firefly, Farscape & Blake's 7 & computer-based role-playing games Mass Effect & Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

Core Rule Book: A high-quality, massive, 384 page, full colour, hardcover book. With everything you will need for players & game-masters (GM). The book will also include loads of art, short stories & more from the game universe.
The Antagonist Archive 1: A high quality, 140 page, full colour, hardcover supplement book. Jam packed with information about the darker side of the Haven System. With NPCs, faction and locations for your players to contend with.
The Antagonist Archive 2: Similar to the Antagonist Archive 1, but will be slowly built over multiple years until it is the same size as the Antagonist Archive 1. Every time we release a new book and expand this setting, we will add to this book. We will also be gathering ideas from our community and placing the best ones inside (with professional art, writing and editing).

Setting primary themes: Cultural tension, biological technology & exploration.
Rules primary focus: Non setting specific rules (though it comes with a setting), 3d6 skill rolls, nonlinear character progression, long sandbox games & tactical miniature based combat.
After expanding throughout the galaxy, terraforming millions of planets & creating electronic wonders beyond our imagination, humanity became apathetic & faced extinction due to Genetic Erosion. Unable to save themselves, they engineered a race to inherit their fallen empire: the Archons.
Rather than treading in the footprints of humanity, the Archons pushed into scientific fields that their creators had barely explored: genetic engineering & the creation of scores of new species, all in an effort to make the ‘perfect’ race.
Over thousands of years, the Archons built a mighty empire & created hundreds of species. But they played favourites, lavishing their love & generosity on some while entirely neglecting others.
Eventually they created what they initially thought was the ‘perfect ‘ race, naming them Xion. When the Archons attempted to rescind the title of ‘perfect’ the Xion fought back. The Archons eradicated the Xion. That is, all but one, who escaped far into uncharted space.
Two hundred years later the lone Xion returned with its own genetically-engineered army (the Nephilim). The ensuing war lasted six years & spelled the destruction of the Archons, their created races & empire. Vindicated, the lone Xion again disappeared, abandoning its army. Small pockets of survivors were scattered across the galaxy, unknown & alone.
Now, a century has passed since the Great Xion War & descendants of the survivors have started to emerge. They have begun to rediscover space travel & are just now making tentative contact with one another in a small star system named ‘Haven’. You are one of these descendants who find yourself stepping into so much unknown…
Rejected by their creators (the Archons) as inferior, the Corporation (formerly known as Vargarti) have grown to love the Great Xion War as it freed them from an existence of insignificance & irrelevance. They are now eager to prove themselves. Not a nation in the classical sense, the Corporation is a massive corporate entity comprised of millions of smaller, affiliated business enterprises; a purely capitalistic society.
Born with the genetic memories of their ancestors, Kaltorans are an innately gifted & flexible race. They are eager to make a new future for themselves, though they struggle with the ‘genetic memories’ of not only the Great Xion War but the extreme measures taken by their ancestors to survive it.
A physically imposing race, hastily created by the Archons to fight their losing war against Xion. The Legion now struggle to create a stable society & to find meaning with no war to fight. In recent times the Legion have formed a close economic relationship with the Corporation, acting as enforcers for hire.
A junk-word term used to describe the diverse descendants of Xion’s genetically engineered army. Created to wage war on the Archons & their creations, before being abandoned by their creator, Xion once the war was won.
The Nephilim have an eclectic, primal & often violent society that is supported by advanced biological technology. While publicly no longer loyal to Xion, their pursuit of genetic perfection at any cost is pervasive.

- Light, Fast & Flexible non Combat rules: We don't want rules to slow the role playing down.
- Player Creativity is Encouraged: We balance the math by telling you what roll needs to be made but not what skill needs to be used. Your approach to a problem will give you bonuses or penalties.
Encouraging Player-Driven Goals: Help players be invested in your world. NPCs’ opinion of your character have a statistical effect on your stats; not everything has to be done for money. You can also be a merchant or scientist, plan trade routes or research new or forgotten technologies.
- Tactical Personal & Spacecraft Combat. Build or modify your own Weapons & Armour.
- Build your own Custom Equipment & Spacecraft. Will you make a gunship for fighting, a cargo ship for trading, create labs & workshops to modifying weapons or perform research or do a bit of everything? The choice is yours.

Non Setting Specific Rules
Fragged Empire comes with a setting, but rules are flexible & robust enough to be adapted to almost any science fiction setting.
Simple 3d6 Resolution System
Skill rolls are done with a simple 3d6 +/- bonus or penalty vs a Difficulty Value or Target’s Defense.
Nonlinear Character Progression
Characters have a pool of options available to them, with no set ability or equipment progression path. This allows Characters to quickly specialize or diversify & to create unique combinations of abilities & equipment to suit your play style.
Low Level Characters can be a dangerous threat to high level Characters due to specialization. Even if two Characters have very similar Attributes, Skills or Equipment, they can function quite different due to Trait selections.
Choose any path you want; Cunning Mercenary, Black Market Smuggler, Archeological Treasure Hunter or Power Mad Scientist. All are balanced.
Best for Long, Sandbox Games
Fragged Empire works for short games but is in its element in long, sandbox-styled games.
Being in a post, post-apocalyptic setting, you will regularly have to make the most of what little resources you have, including balancing short-term & long-term options, making short-term sacrifices for long-term gain, & so on.
Tactical Miniature Combat
Fragged Empire presents intuitive, tactical combat where you will need to not only react to your environment (cover is your friend), but also to respond to your opponents’ Actions. There are also optional rules for non-miniature based combat, if desired.

Help Create Fragged Empire
Collaborations, not committees, make the best multidiscipline creative projects & I would love to have your input. If you back a level that enables you to contribute to the design of this project, we will communicate via email & work with you to develop your contribution.

Please note that we retain full copyright (you will be given non-commercial rights to the use of the art (so use it as you want privately, just not commercially/for profit). We also retain the right to deny any suggestion (Eg. nothing offensive, overtly sexual, contrary to settings theme or that infringes copyright).
- Design: An Item
- To go in the Core Rule Book.
- Your designed item should be a specific game item rather than an item type (ie. you can’t create a ‘Laser Pistol’ weapon type, but you could create a particular model of laser pistol named "Protectron Mk II", for example).
- We will work with you to write around 60 words of flavor text.
- We will also create an image of your item (dimensions approx. 50x50mm).
- We will work with you to develop stats for it to be used in game.
- Your item may also be used in other images or short stories throughout the book (ie. a character might end up using a Protectron Mk II sidearm, for example).

Risks and challenges
Project completion: the rules are mostly written, with just the Spacecraft rules remaining to be finalised. The book is laid out & we just need to finish the art & some writing.
Experience: I'm an experienced graphic designer of over ten years & have self-published other material (see www.vividpublishing.com.au/viewsbeyondthefurthestfence). I am working closely with Modiphius Entertainment for production, distribution & stretch goals (see https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/modiphius/mutant-chronicles-3rd-ed-rpg).
The main challenge will be in meeting the completion goal date of April 2015. I have very high expectations where production quality is concerned, so if I feel that the finished product needs to be improved or polished at the cost of slight delays, we’ll likely take this route & get it done right.
