We're 21st Street Games, the developers that brought you one of the most critically acclaimed video games about cats and techno music of all time. We love games. We love music. We love cats. We love to blow your mind.
Our first game, Techno Kitten Adventure, went to the top of the charts on Xbox Live Indie Games and iTunes. Here's what the people had to say...
"Techno Kitten Adventure will be the next runaway hit. Mark our words." - G4TV
"Both distressing AND delightful!" - Gamespot UK
"Screw Call Of Duty. All The Cool Kids Play Techno Kitten Adventure." - Greg Kumparak, CrunchGear
"[Amazingly] a cursory search on Google News reveals that the game has NOT caused thousands of seizures in children across Japan." - handshakemag.com
"I am sharing this with everyone I know, Techno Kitten Adventure is by far the greatest thing I've ever experienced. More people must know of its greatness." - Nick Mathey
"I find myself playing it almost every day...it will definitely brighten your days." - swforza360, xblaratings.com
"For the price of a bag of pretzels you can get one of the most deeply satisfying experiences of Xbox Indie Games. Get it.. Get it now. You’ll thank me later." - Jared Rosen, TheGameStation.com
Now, we'd love to keep it all rainbows and sunshine, but there are some grim facts that every TKA fan should be aware of so that they can decide whether or not it is important to back our project and our team.
Beyond the original development team, there isn't much support to continue the series due to budget constraints, shifting agendas and general creative differences. Without our fans stepping in, Techno Kitten Adventure has a bleak outlook. This Kickstarter is just as much about keeping this franchise alive, in the hands of its original creators, as it is about creating the next TKA Game.
Without the success of this Kickstarter Campaign, there may never be another TKA game made by the original team. We need your support.
Since releasing the original TKA in June 2011, we've added some amazing talent to our team. We've worked solely on developing games over this period of time and our powers have grown strong! As a wise cat once said, "Ability is of little account without opportunity."
We are now looking for the opportunity to take our ideas and ambitions to the next level and we're looking to our fans and supporters to make that dream a reality. We are asking for the chance to dedicate the next several months of our lives solely to creating the biggest, shiniest, brightest, most kitteh-techno-rainbow-insanity-filled video game ever made!
Now, we know that helping us achieve our dreams and in return ending up with an awesome new Techno Kitten game is reason enough to support the wonderful team at W21, but with this being the age of Kickstarter and all, we know it's just as much about the incredible rewards we can offer our backers. We've whipped up some nifty treats that range from getting a copy of the actual game to getting awesome exclusive merchandise, all the way up to actually working with our team and contributing to the game! Check out the full selection of rewards and we're sure you'll find something that will make your kitteh purr ;)
Take everything we loved about the original, along with all the new ideas we've been cooking up over the past year and then add in all the best features fans have been asking for to create the ultimate adventure. It'll be so amazing, we'll call it Super Techno Kitten Adventure!
Lets start with the music, because music is the heart of the TKA universe. STKA brings you all new songs in a wide variety of techno flavors including Happy Hardcore, Gabber Hardcore, J-Core, Freeform and many others! Soundtrack artists include S3RL, Fracus, Hellsystem, M-Project, R-Kade and many more!
Telling you about it is one thing, but there is only one way to truly taste the flavors and that's with your ears (or something like that). Please enjoy a tiny piece of the delicious ear-candy that awaits :)
Our team has already spent many hours concepting and prototyping to ensure the graphical style and worlds of STKA retain the life, vibrancy and outrageous characteristics of the original TKA while stepping it up to a whole new level, including large fully 3D environments, new graphical effects and hundreds of new characters & objects.
This is one of the coolest new features we've been working on. Close your eyes and picture the perfect Kitteh. Now give him a name. Now pet him. Now, open your eyes to 27,000 possible outfit combinations, custom attributes and the chance to play STKA with your very own Jetpack Kitteh.
We all love Jetpack Kitteh, but lets not forget about all the other Kittehs that return from the original TKA plus a whole litter of new Kitteh characters! Every one of them are brought to life in 3D with new animations and character attributes. Playing through the levels with each of the characters will unlock new outfits and accessories for your custom Kitteh, so you'll want to try them all!
One of our most requested features has definitely been Multiplayer, so that's exactly what we're going to give you! We've been messing around with several different types of Multiplayer & Co-op, so you can expect standard split-screen and online modes in addition to some new variations like tether and race.
Super Techno Kitten Adventure is initially being developed for PC & Mac, with the ultimate goal of being able to launch on Xbox Arcade. We're hoping some positive attention and fan support will help convince Microsoft to let us graduate from Xbox Indies to the Xbox Arcade Big Leagues. The more support we get, the more platforms we'll be able to release on and the bigger we can make the game.
PC & Mac Launch + XBLA Launch (Pending Microsoft Approval)
10 New Levels
10 New Songs
30 New Kittehs
Arcade & Klassic Game Modes
iOS launch (FYI - our $100,000 funding goal is just barely enough to cushion our studio long enough to get the core of STKA done on a single platform. To realize the full vision of this game across all platforms, we really need the time and funding that our stretch goals would provide. The engine licensing fee for publishing to XBLA alone will cost us upwards of $60,000 and that doesn't include initial developer seats that cost $2,000 a pop. Just add in the cost of producing 10 new songs alone and we've already eaten into half that funding amount. Making games is more expensive than you may think, and that's why we need your help!)
2 more Stages
2 more Songs
6 more Kittehs
108 Kitteh Accessories
Android launch (See iOS message above if you are curious as to why we need funding at this level to bring the full game to each of these platforms.)
3 more Stages
3 more Songs
12 more Kittehs
36 more accessories
So, if we hit $500,000 there will be 15 New Levels in total, 15 New Songs, 45 New Kittehs, 135 Accessories to customize your Jetpack Kitteh with & 4 Gameplay Modes, including Multiplayer, all available on XBLA (pending approval from Microsoft), PC, Mac, iOS & Android.
Besides paying our rent, bills, employee salaries (there are almost 20 of us now) and eating the occasional taco, all of the funds we receive will be used for the tools and assets needed to make this game all it can be. This includes paying top-tier talent to produce TKA music and paying the engine licensing fees that enable us to make STKA multi-platform from the outset.
Perhaps, most importantly, your funding will help us to prove that people want more Techno Kitten Adventure and are willing to do what it takes to make that happen. Showing your support will give us a fighting chance to continue doing what we love and will ultimately save the entire Techno Kitten Adventure series from an untimely end. Your donation truly can make a difference.
$100,000 is the minimum we need to make this game, honestly. There are nearly 20 artists, programmers and support people now, as well as the costs of running a studio out of New York City, costs of all the programs we use and licensing fees of porting to each platform. We may have been successful at Raising a smaller amount of money, but at anything less than 100k we could not guarantee the game we envision. Honest.
We code in Unity and Unity isn't going to have Linux ports available until the Fall. We will look into it, but we just cannot guarantee a Linux port at this time. We don't want to guarantee it until we've messed around with it, because we've never done Linux before.
Well, we really need money, but if you can't donate, spread the word. Like the kickstarter page. Post the link on your Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr. Share the Kitteh art we made, and the mini-advergame we made. Send the link to your favorite youtubers & internet personalities. And if you can donate and want to help more, do these things. Techno Kitten Adventure owes so much of it's popularity to Word of Mouth - want to help? Talk it up!
We made the decision to go to 3D because of the possibilities for environment interaction and character movements. We know change is scary, but 3D will allow us to create all sorts of treats and quirks with both Kittehs and background characters. We had a lot of debate about it, and we decided for all we want to do, 3D gave us more options than 2D.
Instead of getting bummed out that we weren't funded at Ouya-like speed, we made a game! Play it at: http://technokittenadventure.com/drmeatballs/ , all you need is to install the free Unity plugin. When you get to 100,000 points, you get a code. If you're really stumped about what to do with it, check the comments section of the kickstarter, someone has cracked it.
Thanks for the suggestions! We've taken a lot of fan suggestions and, honestly, contacted every single person you all have recommended. We love the youtube commentators that helped TKA rise in the first place. Some have responded really favorably, and we thank them sooo much!
Others have been harder to contact. If you know anyone, please feel free to reach out yourselves. Sometimes it means more coming from a gaggle of fans than from the pr person. We have been working every day to get coverage, and any help is greatly appreciated, really.
If the kickstarter isn't funded, we just can't guarantee Super Techno Kitten will ever exist. Beyond the original development team, there isn't much support to continue the series due to budget constraints, shifting agendas and general creative differences. This Kickstarter is just as much about keeping this franchise alive, in the hands of its original creators, as it is about creating the next TKA Game.
We don't know what the future holds. We know you can help, but beyond that, it's just blue blue sky.
