THANK YOU! WE HAVE REACHED OUR FIRST STRETCH GOAL!
Thank you to the nearly 100 people who have ensured the printing of the first issue of VYM Magazine!! Thanks to you, we have raised over $7,000 which will give us more funds after printing to give to the artists! As a thank you, everyone who has donated at the $25 level and up will receive a special VYM bookmark in addition to their rewards!
We have until the end of the weekend to raise even more! $8,000 would give us the freedom to send even more promotional copies to bookstores and reviewers, increasing our reach and making it easier to find VYM from coast to coast.
IF WE REACH $8,000 . . .
- Everyone at the $50 reward level and higher will also receive a print of Sophie McMahan's cover art for the second issue!
Again, thank you to everyone who believes in VYM Magazine. We can't wait to share the finished magazine with you this spring!
INTRODUCING VYM MAGAZINE
What exactly is drag? What is its history…what is its future? What makes good drag, and why should we care? VYM Magazine explores these questions and more with comics, essays, interviews, and photography from today’s most interesting independent creators (both inside and outside of the drag world). This unique and beautiful magazine is the creation of a couple living in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn: Sasha Steinberg (a comics artist, art editor, and drag queen) and John Jacob Lee (a dancer and event coordinator).
The magazine is designed for readers of all backgrounds—from fans of drag to professional performers; from university professors to curious grandparents. We wanted to create something that is mobile but also can be cherished. You should be able to read VYM on the train or in the bath, and then archive it with your favorite books or lend it to your friends.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
We compiled a 40 page preview issue this fall to gauge interest and were overwhelmed with positive response. People are eager for an interesting, thought-provoking, and stylish periodical about the drag world. The money we raise will pay for the printing of 1500 offset-printed copies. Proper printing will ensure that the beautiful art created by our diverse group of contributors will be properly displayed and can be properly archived. Funds beyond the printing costs will help us get VYM into the hands of bookstore owners and distributors across the country, and most importantly, allow us to give more to the talented artists who have helped shape the magazine.

Risks and challenges
VYM Issue #1 is nearly completed and our final submissions are rolling in as we speak. We have spoken with our printers and have a timeline established. We expect to have the magazine in our hands by early April, with rewards finished by the summer! We feel that the key to our success is communication with our readers, so will keep all backers updated on our progress throughout the winter and spring.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
