June Update
Hey folks,
VR will come in many shapes and sizes, from mobile, over seated to standing/room scale experiences. Darkfield VR was always designed to be best played in front of your desk, with your hands firmly holding onto your HOTAS or gamepad. With the recent HTC Vive and Oculus Touch announcements, we wanted to try to bring some of these new elements into Darkfield.
Darkfield Infiltrator
Darkfield Infiltrator is a standalone experience in the Darkfield universe. In Darkfield VR's single player experience you will be able to view holographic recordings retrieved from significant locations of the war. But who retrieved those recordings? You did! The infiltrator unit consists of highly skilled remote operators, controlling humanoid reconnaissance drones. Operators must dynamically switch between first and third person to hack terminals, find clues and retrieve data packages. Darkfield VR's singleplayer and Darkfield Infiltrator will share some locations and we can't wait for you to explore these environments!
Prototype Video:
Darkfield Infiltrator is built with room scale and hand tracked input in mind. All backers of Darkfield VR will have free access to it as soon as it available. Right now, we are waiting for proper development hardware, i.e. Vive or Touch. We will update you on the progress and release date as soon as we have more concrete info.
We will also use the movement scheme of Darkfield Infiltrator in Darkfield VR in addition to first person movement. VR is no "one size fits all" and this optional movement scheme allows people to explore Darkfield's location without motion sickness.
Darkfield VR on Steam; Backer-Submitted Content
In the coming weeks we will make Darkfield VR available on Steam Early Access and we will send out Steam keys to all backers. We will also share the template packages for the "Enemy Contact" and "Be a Legend" tiers. So warm up your microphones and cameras and get ready to add your personal touch to Darkfield!
Cheers,
The Darkfield Team
