Who are 'Voyage' and what's this project they want you to support?
There's certainly no shortage of new songs our churches can be singing. What is rare and increasingly necessary it seems, are new church songs that have been written through the direct involvement and collaboration of both experienced songwriters and experienced trained pastors and bible teachers. This is what Voyage is on about. Voyage is the songwriting partnership of Gavin Perkins, Greg Cooper and Luke Woodhouse. After writing together for more than 7 years we (Voyage) are planning to release their first album of church songs in early 2018. In 2016 and 2017 they have performed in a series of relaxed house concerts, during which several of the songs on the record have taken shape. The goal is that by recording these songs they can be made more widely available for both individuals and churches in Sydney and beyond.
How much of the project has been completed already?
Thanks to the generous donations of some of our supporters earlier this year, we have been able to pay for the costs of hiring a studio, hiring professional musicians, recording engineer and flying out an experienced producer from Nashville. So in August 2017 we were able to go into the studio and record ten tracks we are really (really!) happy with! Joining us on the 'voyage' into the studio were a number of incredibly gifted individuals including Jamie Seyfang (vocals, guitars, songwriting), Brian Murphy (producer, songwriter), Andrew Massey (drums), Trent Prees (bass) and Elaine Lee (viola).
What needs to happen now?
It might sound like there's not much left to do, however we're really only half way through the process. The recorded tracks now require editing, mixing and mastering to bring them up to the quality needed for a professional release. The album then needs to be pressed and prepared for distribution (both physical and digital), as well as sheet music prepared for all the songs. We think we can get close to funding this for around $600 per song (editing, mixing, mastering, pressing and sheet music). So in total we're seeking to raise $6000 (10 tracks x $600) to get this album ready for release.
We would love to be able to release this album early next year, can you partner with us?
Risks and challenges
We will do everything possible to have this album ready for release by February 2018. We are super excited to have these songs out in the wider community. We will do our best to update our supporters of our progress towards this goal. You can follow our Facebook page for updates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
