About this project
Ever since I can remember I had an passionate and unwavering love for art. Any media I could get my hands on I immersed myself in. In this technological day and age anything hand-made holds a great sense of sentimentality and admiration to me.
The idea of Von Briggs Art began numerous times since I could hold a pencil or mold a lump of clay. Some kids had lemonade stands, I would sculpt you a little flower for $1.00.
I have dabbled in many types of art but screen-printing really captured my spirit. I loved the technicality of it, how you can create such perfect images out of a process that can be quite chaotic. I am consistently researching new ways to create different types of images and bring my art and the art of others to life.
The business earned it's name and credibility in early 2011 when I married my passion for art together with the need to make money for studio supplies and food. You know, the necessities.
Now, I have to create a new home for Von Briggs Art.
I need something with less roots. Something mobile. After many hours of researching and planning..it has been decided that Von Briggs Art will move operations to a vintage Airstream!
The inspiration for this portability came from recently getting married to my best friend, and Navy man, Christian. Suddenly, moving around this great country of ours became a guarantee and to continue creating beautiful, hand printed apparel, Von Briggs Art must spread its wings.
All we need is a little help from you!
My husband and I were married July 29th, 2013 and 2 weeks later, he signed up to serve his country as a submariner in the US Navy. I have never been more proud.
Currently, Von Briggs Art is a fully equipped screen-printing business and has a stock of shirts, beanies, stickers and more with a store via Big Cartel. I print out of a small 10x12 foot studio that is fully equipped with a washout sink, dark room, screen drying racks and 2 small stations for printing and curing.
The Airstream Studio project is very exciting as it opens up numerous opportunities to be much more involved with the public and to make the workshop as much a piece of art as the products. What your generous donations will go towards is the finishing touches to this studio-on-wheels such as:
- Waterproof, easy to clean, dark wood flooring
- Commercial sink sprayer
- Equipment storage units
Von Briggs Art's goals for The Airstream Studio are to...
- Tour across country a minimum of five months of the year.
- Make appearances at various music festivals, farmers markets and craft fairs.
- Offer private screen-printing lessons from yours truly all year 'round in the Airstream for all ages.
- Meet local artists in various cities and partner with them to create all new designs.
No matter how much you help out, it’s very, very appreciated. Big or small, you’ll get some serious love and cool rewards.
There are two designs currently being offered as backer rewards:
The flagship, “I Support Starving Artists” shirt and the “Sacred Cat Skull” shirt.
Among the rewards I'm offering in return for your support, which most can be found on my website for sale now or coming soon, is the military surplus backpack style bag. I am only hand-printing 10 of these with a design created JUST for this Kickstarter!
Other Awesome Rewards!
-Make your cool jacket cooler with the “Eye & Sword” patch! Upside-down coffin shape with dark gray threading on black twill.
-Love beanies? Here’s our super comfy, great fitting beanie with the “Eye & Sword” patch hand stitched on the front.
-Your name will forever be immortalized on the side panel of the Airstream under the heading, “A Special Thanks To…”. A photo of this will be posted on our Facebook page on our website.
-Ever wanted to learn how to screen-print? The move from the tiny studio space to a mobile Airstream will allow Von Briggs Art to be open to the public and offer screen-printing lessons all year ‘round! Blank shirts will be provided for you to print on and we will go through each fun step of the process!
The “Eternal Love and Gratitude” Reward!
Immense thank you package of stickers, beanies, and other goodies, your name on the Airstream along with a free shirt sent to you from each new run of designs for our first year!
All backers will also receive a hand-written "Thank you" note as well as a "I Support Starving Artists" sticker!
So, In Summary...
While my husband is deployed and doing what he loves, I will be too with The Airstream Studio. While he is in port the studio and I will make a home base to offer printing and art lessons while stocking the store and working with new local artists. We knew that we wanted to travel and now we are going to. No matter where we end up Von Briggs Art will be able to provide you with creative, hand-printed apparel.
Now you know the heart and soul of this project. I appreciate you taking the time to read about The Airstream Studio and hopefully we will be in a city near you soon.
Rebecca Von Briggs
Risks and challenges
Since Von Briggs Art has been a running business for a few years now, I am not worried about the ability to follow through with the backer rewards. But, as with any project, there will be some sort of obstacles to overcome. Whether it's mechanical problems, renovation issues or unforeseen travel needs or cancellations.. I am truly blessed with a big group of family and friends that have all offered their help as mechanics, carpenters, plumbers and fellow artists. There is no way I could have come this far without them and their knowledge has given me the opportunity to make this project succeed. I am also very fortunate to have a husband that is very supportive of my passions and is very flexible when situations arise. We are both gypsies at heart and there is no other way we would rather live than a way we can see the world.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
