Frequently Asked Questions
US shipments will ship via UPS Ground. We are passing along our negotiated cost of shipping the reward.
For shipments outside of the US and Europe, we will be shipping the backpack rewards via UPS Express Service. The backpacks contain lithium batteries and have a relatively high value so this is the only secure option. Air shipments are based on what is called the dimensional weight of the box (LxWxH / 139) which ends up being 10 pounds for both the OffGrid and Array. From there, we are just passing passing along our costs. Note that international shipping costs do not include duties or taxes.
For Europe, we will ship via ocean to Europe and then on from there via UPS Ground. In this case, the "shipping" costs also includes the VAT.Last updated:
We ship internationally via UPS. Airline regulations consider batteries like the ones included in the Array and OffGrid to be "loose batteries" when not packed with the equipment they are meant to power. These need to go on cargo flights and require special documentation.
If you are curious, here is the complete list of countries (look for the ones with the checkbox under UN3480) where UPS can ship LiIon batteries to by air: https://www.ups.com/media/en/gb/dangerous-goods-service-areas.pdfLast updated:
Yes, both bags can be carried onto any flight (international or domestic). However, since they do have lithium ion batteries, they must be part of your carry-on luggage and CANNOT be located in checked baggage as per FAA regulations.

Any laptop at or below 15 x 10 x 1.5 inches (38.1 x 25.4 x 3.8cm) will fit in either the OffGrid or Array. Note that only the Array is able to charge a laptop.Last updated:
To customize your solar backpack with one of our add-on options, simply add the dollar amount listed in our Add-On menu to your reward level pledge. Once the campaign is complete, we will issue a Backer Survey to collect additional information on your add-on option.
For EU Shipment, we will ship the add-ons separately from the backpacks as they will ship from our US warehouse (backpacks will ship from our EU Warehouse in Rotterdam). Please add on an additional $15 USD to your pledge (+ add-on amount) to cover the cost of shipping.Last updated:
The newest, compact DJI Mavic and GoPro Karma have relatively modest-sized batteries and are well-suited for the Array. The Array can charge the larger, professional drones like the DJI 4, but charge times will be slower.
It depends on the drone, but most likely you will need to purchase a car charger or other accessory either from your drone manufacturer or a 3rd party. We’ve detailed each connection on our blog here:
Both the OffGrid and Array can charge your camera. If your camera charges from USB, just connect the cable to either internal battery.
For nearly all other cameras, we have an optional USB cradle that connects to the USB output of the Voltaic battery. To determine which one you need, simply take out the battery on your camera and look for the model number.
