About this project
VOID is a medieval PnP RPG influenced by Slavic, Mediterranean, and Middle-Eastern mythology and folklore. We delved into the strange and the weird when creating this game, developing races and monsters that had not been seen in other RPGs, while holding some historical accuracy to ancient tales! VOID is set in the dark, unexplored world of Aenar, which has been developed over the last decade. Aenar is populated by seven distinct races, each of which was created by different gods. These gods have no concept of good or evil, but they enjoy watching their creations struggle against nature, themselves, and creatures of all kinds!
Saudis Dar, the main continent, stretches nearly the length of the world, sitting fully within the expanse of the ocean, called Strega’s Deep. Saudis Dar is divided horizontally by the Kalinov Desert. Marharia is the name given to the North and Haemus Mons is the name given to the South.
This past year, we began revealing VOID to a wonderful fanbase by telling the stories of the charactersSeigfeld, Drada, and Balvoc on our website. You may even find ballads of their deeds sung in the alehouses! We have played in this world for years within our own gaming groups. Now, we are ready to release the game for everyone to explore!
In order to play VOID, you will need:
- The Core Rulebook
- Character Sheet
- Action Counter Sheet
- Pen, Paper, & Set of Dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12)
To begin, you Create a Character by selecting your Race and furnishing them with Equipment/Armor (most of which are new concepts in RPGs). You then build your character around the traits: Strength, Agility, Mental, and Sorcery. New players will need about 10 - 20 minutes making a new character, whereas experienced players can make a new character in just a few minutes.
As you venture through the world of Aenar, you follow your beliefs, dreams, and personal motivations. In instances of battle, follow the guidelines of the interactive Combat system as you face the creatures from the Bestiary. At any time, you may cast spells of your own creation from the eight categories of Sorcery.
The game is managed by the Game Master, who is responsible for creating an adventure that weaves together the motivations of the characters. In VOID, the Game Master shapes the game according to your character's motivations instead of forcing them into situations that do not fit their personal character beliefs.
VOID was designed to test the limits of your imagination in ways not found in other tabletop games. We wanted to create a game that allowed players to have deeper exploration of their characters. We also wanted to approach combat as a realistic and gritty experience, where some wounds may never heal. VOID brings these aspects to life through interactive combat, free flow sorcery, and a classless system. In addition to these new concepts, we have also created simple mechanics so that rule-delving does not interrupt dungeon-delving (but there’s no shortage of geekery for those players who seek it)!
We have eliminated the restrictions of the traditional Class system (Thief, Fighter, Mage, etc.) so that you can create complex, realistic characters. Your character is built around four traits: Strength, Agility, Mental, and Sorcery. These traits contribute to your Stamina and Sanity, the two pools of life. Rather than classifying characters as only being good or evil, they are instead defined by their own complex belief system. These beliefs determine how characters interact within the dark and dangerous world of Aenar. This allows you to explore your own values and morality in order to quest beyond the conventional heroics, honor, and glory.
The VOID Core Rulebook is complete (!) and is now in the process of being edited. As our way of giving back to the gaming community, we want to release the VOID Core Rulebook as a free PDF. We have spent copious amounts of time and energy creating VOID. Now, to complete the rulebook we need your help in raising money to cover the cost of illustrations.
Our funding goal is $5800 will be used to pay for custom artwork and the fees charged by Kickstarter and Amazon Payments. This base-level funding will include our seven character race concepts [in color], our gods and goddesses [in color], our basic monsters [in black and white], six character designs [in color], and four full scenes [in color]. If funding exceeds our Kickstarter goal then we will commission additional illustrations, as explained in the Stretch Goals section! ▼

The estimated delivery date listed in Reward Levels is the absolute worse case scenario. The Core Rulebook should be ready to ship by October 2014.
To show our appreciation for backing our project, we have created various backer rewards to satiate your VOID craving, from a good-willed NOVICE BACKER, to a VOID GOD. We have also created advertisement rewards (#7 and #11) for gaming stores and game creators!
Any backer who pledges at Reward #2: (PLAY-TESTING BACKER) or above can choose to be a test-player. You will receive the PDF Core Rulebook (without illustrations) by June 01, 2014 and will need to return feedback forms by August 01, 2014. [When this PDF is released, we will email every eligible backer to ask if they wish to participate.]
Our reward levels are optimized so that you only get what you really want. But if you would like an extra physical copy for a friend, or an awesome Aenar map for your gaming den, simply add the amount shown below to your pledge.
Our stretch goals focus on expanding the art for the Core Rulebook. If funding exceeds our Kickstarter goal then we will commission additional illustrations!
VOID Tabletop Roleplaying Game was founded by two ambitious writers and active tabletop gamers that have been creating nuances to existing games and creating new games since we were young.
VOID is based on Aenar, an unexplored world that has been refined over the past ten years. We have plans for an expansion in the VOID game, including new lands, additional races, and much more.
In addition, a dark fantasy novel that takes place within Aenar, tentatively titled Melkorka, has been submitted for representation, and a sequel is ready to quickly follow.
Risks and challenges
The largest risk is having only two creators on the VOID Team. If we simultaneously get hit by a truck or run through by a sword, the project might die with us. The other risk results from dependencies in the production process, but we’re confident in our choices. We’ve been with our illustrator since September of last year. In addition to being absolutely phenomenal to work with, she has always delivered on time. Further, our books will be printed by a large printing company that is familiar with individual writers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
