About

Hello, my name is Miguel Amortegui, I am a Latin American photojournalist, filmmaker and writer based in the United Kingdom. With a career of 20 years,  I have  worked in many countries throughout Africa, America, Europe and Asia. I work with communities in extreme poverty, victims of war and extreme violence. He specialises in participatory photography projects with vulnerable communities around the world using this method as a tool for positive social change. I use photography to create new ways to communicate in the community, helping people to improve themselves, to overcome traumas and to help support self advocacy that provides them with the dignity that has otherwise been ignored or placed at risk.

Voices of the Jungle was born as a response to the oversaturated and irresponsible coverage provided by the mainstream media regarding the refugee humanitarian crisis. It gives a voice to the thousands of refugees that were trapped and mistreated in the infamous “Jungle”in Calais, France.

Voices of the Jungle is the result of a long time working in the refugee camp and getting to know all its people. It is an intimate portrait of the life of these refugees, their stories, their hopes, their dreams and especially their dignity.

This book was published a year ago, it was the spark for a series of Exhibitions in New York, london and Italy. This photography work and investigation in this book brought for me an  invitation to the General assembly of the United Nations head quarters to speak about my work. and the life of the refugees that lived in this camp.  https://youtu.be/DiZK5syXMcg

I am using kickstarter to help me with the printing of the book,  to promote and distribute it and at the same time to find investors who want to help me to continue with a series of books: "Voices of..."   that will continue to give voice to those people that are ignored.

please visite my website to see my work.
