The Life of Shadows features an active time battle system, like Chrono Trigger. It allows for much customization. The story is completely original, with the professional influences of many great RPGs. The game is being developed by me, but I am currently recruiting a small team. I plan on making it around a 24 to 40 hour game, depending on how interesting I can keep my current story going. I also plan on replacing many of the graphics I currently have in use, so don't be fooled by the looks of some maps.
The game is about ghosts, time-travel, and redemption.
You start out on a small island, where you have lived for your entire life. You have made a boat and you will travel to the neighboring island. There you will come across something, unexpected...
You start out on a small island, where you have lived for your entire life. You have made a boat to travel to the remains of Insula Umbra (the Island of Shadows). There you will meet the ghosts of the island's past. They will give you a quest, and you will there start your journey to right the world's wrongs, and save the world.
As promised, this game will feature custom music from my composer, Jose Moreno! Here is a track he made me for my title screen:
- An active time battle system
- 24+ hours of gameplay
- Very tactical battle system. The next armor could make all the difference
- Completely original soundtrack (when funded)
- PC/Mac Support
- Multiple time periods to play through. You start out in an unknown time period and travel back a few thousand years.
This demo may not be completely balanced. Remember it is a public pre-alpha. The music is also placeholder. The end of the demo is when you go into the place called "battle fever." It is currently a placeholder.
Click the .exe file, extract it, and then double click my placeholder Vita Umbra Icon in the extracted folder.
For smaller updates, I will be releasing patches. Unless otherwise noted, everything will be in the data folder. Currently a bug was found in a map and it only took one small edit. Follow the instructions to fix the bug.
I found a bunch of bugs and removed most of them. You can use your old saves with this. To update the mac demo:
This one has a game stopping bug towards the first hour and a half of play.
To use the mac demo with the new windows demo:
First extract the windows demo.
Find your The Life of Shadows app. Right click it and click "show package contents".
Navigate to Contents, then resources, drive_c, rgss2_game, and delete the existing vita umbra folder. Now, move the new windows demo in that folder. Thats it!
The screenshots may make more sense than my video. Please look at the bottom for a transcript if you don't understand my voice.

Extra copies of the game
If you would like extra copies of the game, that's fine!
To get digital copies, add increments of $15 to your pledge!
For physical copies, add increments of $25 to your pledge!
If you would like to mix just contact me. also I will need verification of whether you would like physical copies or digital copies for every $75. So 75, 150, 225 ect.
Here are some current screenshots

There are many things you can do to customize the gameplay, like choosing your character.
Different classes have different skills. The SP consumption rate is absolutely not final and more skills will be added.

This is my hook of sorts. It's a quick backstory:
One being has lived alone inside it's home of lava and volcanic rock for it's whole life.
It has learned how to make a vessel for traveling across the hostile blue that has previously impeded it's travels.
The books in it's home have taught it all it needs to know about life, from etiquette to reading to speech.
It is now attempting to travel outside it's small island, to see if there is anything beyond...
