Moving a Big Boulder

Dear Kickstarter Backers,  

ohhhh well,... we are aware that we've released our last update more than 3 months ago, but there was a good reason for the delay: We were working hard on something "really big". Indeed - a big and heavy boulder was lying in our way and it took us an incredible amount of time and concentration to move this bastard. As soon as we got this thing off the tracks, our head was free to focus on the next update. So, here it is! Finally! :)

The Big Boulder?! 

So what is this "big boulder" that was lying in our way? Well, it's not more or less than the spectacular, extremely elaborate, grand finale of the game - the pretty emotional OUTRO of "The Mystery of Oak Island". In sum, we worked on this outro for about 4 months. What came out was a 4-minute-long hollywood like film sequence.

Why did the outro consume 4 months of development time?
This is what we asked ourselves many times and there are many answers to that question.

Since it is difficult to realize realistic, emotional facial expressions and movements in 3D without motion capturing, the work was quite difficult and exhausting for us. Furthermore, during the development of the outro, we went through various steps of learning. We were constantly developing our skills and we were raising our demands from week to week.

Each idea was discussed many times and often implemented as a test. During this work we often tried various perspectives, different kinds of lightning, several textures and effects of all kind. After we were fine with the visual implementation (graphics and animation work) we continued with music, sounds... and speech.

Speech? Yes, of course... the characters also talk in the outro. With the help of some talented amateur voice actors we were able to record speech samples for the outro and in the next step we tried to to realize natural mouth movements. Many thanks to Dean North, Kate North and their parrot Loki, who did their very best to provide us with very nice voice recordings. Not just once... they helped us over and over again! You guys are sensational!!

Anyway - the heavy and big boulder is out of the way now and we are very happy that we can focus on the next steps. Now we are preparing ourselves for the final sprint to the finish!

News from the music department  

Although we were massively working on the outro sequence most of the time, this wasn't the only thing we did. Luigi-Maria Rapisarda made big steps forward in the music area. The music is now finished for almost every stage of the game and he also finished the music for most of our video sequences. It's all coming together.

New, beautiful game scenes  

Some guys might think we should "slightly cut" the game to bring the game development to a faster end. Yes, maybe we should do that and release a shorter game. But this would feel weird somehow. 

Instead we are adding additional content here and there. Some game areas have been significantly expanded. We added a handful of new rooms and stages that originally were never planned. Here's one:

Working on the manual

The game will come with an well designed manual including many interesting stories and lots of background informations. Buyers of the digital version will receive this manual as a PDF document, while supporters of the Collector's Edition will receive the manual in a beautiful printed and elaborately produced form. Maybe we also perfume the manual with the smell of old graveyards, earth and rotten wood ;)

Anyways, the work on the manual has begun and we are making good progress here as well.  

Merging the team  

In recent years, we've had a rather decentralized way of working because we were living at different places in Germany (Düsseldorf, Siegen, Heilbronn). Just a month ago we changed this working structure.

Our 3D Graphic Designer Daniel and Project Manager Thomas teamed up to improve the working structure. This way we can work together more efficiently on the completion of the game.

Please be patient!

We know that it is hard to be patient. We have been developing this game for more than 3 years now and we understand your feelings very well. We are impatient too! This game costs much energy, time and money and it sometimes brings us to our limits.  We want this game to be finished as soon as possible and we hope that all this effort will eventually pay off someday.

We are still looking for gifted voice actors

We are very happy that our last update has helped us receive quite a few promising voice actors. If you have a great voice and good quality recording equipment, you can still apply to us for a voice role.

      Any update on when we can expect to receive the game I know you changed the timelines ie full game instead of episode based but it was listed as estimated delivery Sept 22016 it's now 2019! Are we ever going to receive a finished product?
