Deep Footprints on muddy ground
Dear Oak Island Supporters,
Some more weeks have passed since our last update in the summer. The days are getting shorter and the temperature is dropping. This can make oak island a hazardous place and just like the island, there are hazards in development. In our case technical issues to be solved. It seems that the island does not want to reveal its dark secrets without a fight. But we are fighting back! Just like the swashbuckling protagonists in the game, we are rigging the main sails and following the map of development to the hidden treasure.
We see our path ahead clearly. The project is coming together as such that we can follow the trail before us in a progressive and efficient manner. The most important step in regards to development is to lay a clear path ahead, especially in regards to the scope of Oak Island. We have many scenes and many puzzles, mixed with a vast narrative steeped in dialogue. We want to deliver a game which has equal quality in all these aspects.
It's not always been easy during the 2 years of development that has already passed and today we know that we followed the wrong path more than once. But you know how it is - you only make footsteps when you walk and you need to walk if you want to reach your goal. Even if you walk the wrong way or in a circle, you will learn from it. Learning and Improving - this is what we have been doing since the very first day since the Kickstarter succeeded. People are looking for treasure on Oak Island for more than 220 years. Just like the real treasure hunters commitment and patients, we are so happy to have your support and - most important - your patience.
We will stay here on the island, fight the cold and suppress the pain until we finally raised the treasure that we are looking for - that's for sure.
Heroes of Oak Island
Do you know the "heroes" of Oak Island? Those who put their lives and family into danger? Those who invested tons of money to solve one of the last great, unsolved mysteries on earth?
There were indeed hundreds of people searching for the treasure, but the real heroes of Oak Island - are you guys! You are the real heroes because you made our expedition happen. Some guys paid up to 750 Euros to become part of all this… and we will pay this back not just with our game, but by adding the high tier supporters to our "Treasure Hunter Museum" and the manual.
Most of you guys already sent us your pictures and some of you were very creative. Your pictures put a smile on our faces. Look at these brilliant people.
We will use your pictures and with some editing, transition them into the game. All these pictures will be shown in the Oak Island Museum. Below you see a quick and rough example how this could finally look like.

Ongoing Technical Improvements
You know how important it is to use the right machines and most professional equipment. This is why we constantly improve our tools and invest tons of money into our modern equipment.
Like the drills on Oak island, we have our own drilling engine, the Visionaire Adventure Game Engine, which is being improved upon each and every day. Not just that, we have finished our mobile ports, fixed hundreds of bugs and created a brandnew game editor, we have also created many new functions that will help us to massively increase the quality of the game.
New Sound System
Do you hear the screaming birds, the howling wind in the top of the trees or the rain? No? That's probably because it wasn't possible until now to create a dynamic sound system with our engine. But now and finally, we have made it happen.
With the brandnew Visionaire Studio Sound Engine, we can create a much more dynamic background system. We can control each single sound, like changing the dynamic of wind, waves or the sound of birds. This gives the game a much better mood and supports the dramaturgy.
The new sound system enables us to create a realistic sound environment, based on single sounds (singing birds, crackling fire, driving cars, wind, flowing water,...).
Additionally we can mix sounds and tracks now. This way we can manually or automatically adjust single sounds, fade them, change them, pitch them, set them mute and many other things. With a single script we can start sound events and automation's, based on specific events in the game.
Also we can create effects and assign them to sounds or mix tracks. This way it’s easy to add reverb, echoes and much more.
It took us many months to develop this kind of system.
Finishing rooms & Texturizing
For more than a year now, our team member Alexandr Elichev from Odessa in Ukraine has been working hard, creating many new rooms from scratch, as well as texturizing our existing 3D rooms. In Adventure Games moving around can be very boring. So we recently added an additional navigation system. With it you can move around much faster from one place to another. Just open the map (similar in appearance to a post card), click on the new destination and you instantly arrive at the location in the game.
You see - we are still working hard on the game content, the technique, everything from the engine all the way up to big puzzle chains. With all this in place, we can easily see the complete picture- but there are still many small missing pieces throughout the game. We want the game to be perfect and therefore we take the time that we need - even if we have to take longer to flip or exchange some puzzle parts. This is a process that needs time and also money.
As soon as the game is completely finished we will start with the translations and finally will do the voice recordings. This also is a process that needs time and money. That's why we are always happy for additional pre-orders via Paypal. Pre-orders giving us an additional budget will allow us to improve upon things such as, voices, further improvements, and more content.
