Christmas on Oak Island...
Dear Oak Island Supporters,
our faces are smeared with soil and clay and we have thick spiderwebs covering our clothes... but we are still living and working in the dark underground of Oak Island. It's a hard job and only the toughest men will survive. The underground tunnels almost became home for us, but it's good to see daylight again and talk about our latest adventures and achievements.
Yes, you are right,we kept you waiting quiet a while and our hands are STILL empty. No gold nuggets, no dublons... no ancient writings or artifacts. But we have seen things in the darkness, that are unbelievable and more than strange. We felt the cold breath of the island on our skin and its hand on our neck. We know that the Island does not want us to reveal it's story, but we are coming closer; closer to the heart of the island and closer to the entire mystery.
The search for the Oak Island treasure has already lasted for 222 years now and it's still a challenge - for you as the fans and for us as the searchers. Here's our latest update.
The Secret of the Mi'kmaq
Some of you may know, that the native mi'kmaq indians settled and lived in Nova Scotia for hundreds of years. Archeologists found ancient carvings and items from this time and we thought it might be a cool thing if the player could explore a small part of the indian history and reveal some secrets of their own mystery.
It wasn't our plan to add the indians in the first place when we started the kickstarter campaign and we knew that it would need much additional work although our budget is very limited. So we discussed this a while and finally came to the conclusion that it would be a shame if we could not add this additional mystery to the game. A few weeks ago we finally started with the process.
We reached out for cool looking 3D models with nice textures, created many indian like items and finally added animations, wrote dialogues and Luigi composed a wonderful, mystical soundtrack. We are sure that you will enjoy playing this part of the game. It means a longer game and a better understanding of the history of Nova Scotia and Oak Island.
New Concept Screens
We always try improve and enrich the game and Jochen aka "Joey Dee" heavily helps us by creating interesting room concepts that perfectly fit our needs and breath the "adventure game spirit", as you can see in the two new concepts below.
New Cutscenes and Renderings
We also started to work on a couple of new cutscenes. Please see below...
New Website for Visionaire Studio
Maybe you know, that we develop our own adventure game engine - called Visionaire Studio. Just recently we created a brand new, international website for the visionaire studio engine. On the new site you find many interesting tutorials, templates, drafts or even full games as a free download.
"Visionaire Studio 5" is upcoming!
For many months we have worked on "Visionaire Studio 5". The new engine enables us to make Oak Island a better game. It comes with many very cool features like...
• a brandnew particle system (for smoke, fog, rain, fire)
• a debug system
• more flexibility with LUA scripting
• keyboard controls
• asset search
• HTML5 support
• XBOX One and Playstation 4 Support
• a more effective game editor
Visionaire Studio 5 will be available early in 2017 and the license holder of Visionaire Studio 4 will probably get a FREE upgrade. So, if you want to create an adventure game on your own, please go and buy yourself a license. You support the engine team AND Oak Island with your purchase.
You can keep track of the engine development in the visionaire studio community on www.visionaire-studio.net
Some kickstarter supporters wrote us and asked if there is already a release date. We totally understand this question, because in the kickstarter campaign we announced, that the first of 3 chapters would probably be available in late 2016. Most of you read in one of the last year's updates, that we changed plans and want to release the complete game including all the chapters. That's why the game development continues and why don't yet have a release date.
We are making very good steps forward but we also have to be honest and need to say that we aren't yet close to the release and it is still a distance to go. Maybe we are at 60% in sum now. Often it happens that planned things don't work out too well and forces us to rethink plans. We also often rework existing sceneries or even recreate them from scratch to get the highest quality possible. Besides there are always technical construction sites or general changes that force us to go some steps back instead of pushing forward. That's the reality when you create a game with a small team like ours.
WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
We know that you want the best for the game and we feel blessed to have your support and your patience. Many people help "behind the curtain", like good friends, family or members of the adventure game community. Some have become great friends... like dean and polly. ;)
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Personal Note: Our plan is to keep you posted on regular basis and we would like to post an update every few weeks, but a game of this size consist of thousands of assets and we have to take care of millions of details - especially in the programming of the game. These details need a lot of time. Also it's often difficult to write updates without spoilering too much of the game or the storyline - because at the end we want to surprise you. The more you know, the less you will enjoy the final game. So please be patient. :)
We are always happy for additional pre-orders via Paypal on www.oakisland-game.com. Pre-orders give us an additional budget, which we need to provide voices, further improvements, and more content. Please support us, and tell your friends to pre-order the game via www.oakisland-game.com
