A Shirt with The Power to Change Lives
This campaign is about empowering the lives of people who never had any real opportunities through a beautiful top quality shirt, 100% cotton, made under ethical conditions.
We started the Kickstarter of The Perfect Shirt in order to obtain the necessary funds to scale our production and be able to sustainably install our production site in Guachupita, Dominican Republic, an impoverished community in Santo Domingo known for its lack of opportunities. Back our project today and help us bringing empowerment and opportunities through our social pillars.
Support our project today and help us bring empowerment and opportunities to those who never had any.
How can this shirt empower lives?
This 100% cotton shirt has the power of changing lives for the better. Your purchase will bring opportunities of sustainable development to those who never had any and will contribute to scalable change in the way we produce, deliver and price our goods. This shirt is empowerment. This shirt is powerful.
At VIRTŪ, we understand that companies and their products must have a further meaning than the sole generation of capital. We work hard to combine profitability and ethics in order to create the first of many beautiful products that contribute to a positive social impact of the people and communities behind its production.
Our business model is designed to guarantee long lasting social impact. We work with unemployed locals by teaching them a craft in order to give them a real opportunity to get out of the poverty cycle through an honest job.
We are constantly striving for perfection. But why should we leave perfection behind when it comes to principles? The Perfect Shirt enhances the status quo: Fusing selective style with a strong sense for fair trade and ethical conditions. The Perfect Shirt is more than a piece of clothing. It is a tool for global change. The shirt is made with 100% cotton, imported from USA and produced under fair conditions in Dominican Republic.
Our Coconut Shell Buttons
We thought about every element of our Perfect Shirt and how to make it as sustainable and fashionable as possible. After many alternatives, we've decided to include Indonesian Coconut Shell Buttons. Our buttons are personalized and carry the lowest environmental impact in comparison with other materials such as plastic or metal.

Talking about celebration...
We were supported by the great people at Luc Belaire and its #BelaireBacked program. Only 5 crowdfunding campaigns in different categories have been #BelaireBacked and we proud ourselves in becoming part of this special community. Being #BelaireBacked means to be pushed above your crowdfunding goal in order to secure your founding and avoid loosing the money.
It's all thanks to you, wonderful community as #BelaireBacked only applies to campaigns that are 10% away from their goal- if not for your continuous and unmeasurable support, we wouldn't be here.
Thanks to all of you.

Our Social Funnel
At VIRTŪ we are all about empowerment and sustainability in every stage of our production, delivery and retail process. Beginning with workshops during our pre-production and going all the way to our 50/50 business model in which 50% of our profit goes back to the communities behind the production line for long term development, our social funnel is designed to produce the major possible impact.
Selection of community: The main idea behind VIRTŪ is to host a sustained intervention in communities that lack opportunities for development. Following this logic, we screened the Dominican Republic looking for a community able to host a sustainable and long lasting intervention. After a thorough search we found Guachupita, one of Santo Domingo's poorest and most dangerous slums. There, in association with FURJUG a local NGO dedicated to the creation of opportunities for the local youngsters, we set the base for our production site.
Establishment of production site: As an ethical brand, we apply the highest standards in the establishments of the production site for our garments. Regulations regarding security and a child care center are paramount for us.
Training: The development of technical skills is key for our business model, through the INFOTEP organisation in Dominican Republic, we are preparing 50 youngsters to progressively integrate into our production line under one of the diverse positions on our production line. Training is designed to be progressive and include the development of capacities that allow and prepare the young people to do what they want in life.
Employment: Our conditions of employment are the first practical impact that we have on our communities. As soon as a person integrates to our production line, we pay them a salary that is 300% more than the legal minimum in the industry. The purpose of this drastic policy is to promote a living wage and a ripple effect between producers and their communities. It is important to mention that producers cannot move out of their communities and maintain their work for VIRTŪ.
Sustainability: Our business model is supported by the retail of our garments. We do not depend from donations or external investment to maintain sustainability.
50/50: Our 50/50 business model consists in reinvesting half of our profits in mid/long term development projects for the communities behind our production line. We believe that living wage salaries are not enough to guarantee a sustainable development, therefore we developed a system of empowerment that aims to promote entrepreneurship within the communities. Our technical preparation together with our microfinancing is designed to foster entrepreneurship and social traction.
Please spread the word!
Your support is everything to us.
What are we doing with your contributions?
Transparency is our key principle and we want to share a detail disclosure of what we will do with your contributions. As can be seen in the following chart, our biggest expense relates to the establishment of our production line, which means purchasing equipment, materials and necessary elements for our production, this, together with training accounts for a 50% of the overall expenses. Following the same logic, the cost of overhead represents only 8% of the general earnings.
Who we are and why we are doing this:
We are a group of young social entrepreneurs frustrated with the status quo and the abuses of the fashion industry and the lack of options for ethically produced smart business fashion. We created VIRTŪ as a response to the unnecessary models of human exploitation, and as an answer to the human drama caused by social inequalities that are the daily bread in Latin American societies. We want to contribute in the creation of opportunities for those who were not born with the conditions to choose what they wanted to do in life.
More about the VIRTŪ Team: http://virtu.rocks/about-us.html
Our products combine social empowerment for our communities and top quality garments with affordable prices for our customers. We established VIRTŪ because we couldn’t find ethical garments that fitted our expectations of design, quality and price.
Risks and challenges
From years of experience in entrepreneurship and daily cross discipline collaboration, we understand what it takes to bring a disruptive product to fruition. We've chosen to spend a whole year going through all the processes, and refused to start the Kickstarter campaign until everything was set and ready to go to a production and administration level.
Production: Our lead designer in Dominican Republic, Elissa Morató, is a renown top quality producer with 30 years of experience in the sector and our ground counterpart organization, FURJUG, is an NGO with 10 years experience working with vulnerable groups.
Social Impact: We are directly employing our producers to guarantee the intended working conditions. We've designed a production system that minimises risk and guarantees sustainability for long term employment.
Christmas Cards: We're factoring in the risk that postcards won't get delivered and will do our best to resend them.
Miscellaneous: We'll keep you all informed with updates during the campaign as well as during the production!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
