I am the Violin Monster
Greetings, friends! How are you today? Swell! I'm glad to hear it! I am the Violin Monster. I started fiddling on the streets (errrrrr...sidewalks) of Ann Arbor full time in June 2011. Following this dream has been the best decision of my life. I had no idea what to expect at first, but the experiences I've had from playing my Irish and fiddle tunes for unsuspecting passersby have been soul-enriching and fabulously entertaining. I've collaborated with writers, photographers, and artists who have seen me as a subject worthy of their work! Sharing this journey and including people in my creative expression has meant the most to me. And I want to continue to do so, and even kick it up a notch!

The Adventure Begins
Michigan winters are pretty harsh, and the inclement weather lasts for at least five months. So I knew if I was seriously serious about doing this, I'd have to travel when it got too cold for my fiddlin' fingers. And I am seriously serious. About being a werewolf. And playing the violin. I embarked on my journey at the end of October, and so far I've shocked and/or charmed and/or entertained people in Boston, New York, Charlotte, Atlanta, and New Orleans. Some really cool stuff has happened along the way, too. My picture was taken for the Boston Globe, I performed for the Occupy Wall Street protesters, met some amazing musicians at bluegrass open jam nights, I've been featured on numerous blogs, and talented photographers have shot some spectacular images of me. Like this one: Royal Street in the French Quarter, New Orleans.

I am launching this Kickstarter project so I can monsterize more cities (think of how cool it would've been if Godzilla had the funding to go global!) and share the experience more completely with you! I am using a wide range of social media to broadcast the photos, videos, and stories I collect. I'm also creating premium postcards that are glossy, pretty, and able to support high resolution images. Sending you a postcard with a personal message and answers to any questions you may have is really important to me. I enjoy getting nice things in my mailbox, and I'm sure you do too! In addition, I'm pressing a limited edition CD that I will ship to you. The first 100 people to pledge $25 or more will get this goodie autographed! Here is one of the songs that will be on it:
Sometimes do you get lonely late at night and wish a violin playing werewolf would serenade you with a sweet song? Well, stop your tossing and turning, because with a pledge of $50 I will call you up and turn that dream into a reality. And remember... the rewards are additive, so you will get all of the sweet super sweet prizes at the lower levels. For a pledge of $100 I will make a Violin Monster video with a personal dedication to you, and only you, and I will upload it to my official YouTube channel, facebook page, and website. And I'll Tweet about it, telling the world how cool you are. The video will be something you'll be proud to have your name associated with. It will be artistically shot and edited together with fabulosity. Check out the first Violin Monster ever created: (it's also documentation of the first time your favorite fiddlin' werewolf appeared in public)
In case you haven't already figured out that I'm a total dork, that RPG reference should help you out in realizing this particular truth. I do often pretend my quest is the path of a character in a role playing game. Every time I learn a new song, I think of it as a new spell that I can spellbind an audience with. So what can I do if my project exceeds its fundraising goals? I can level up from a level 7 Werewolf Bard to a level 12 Monster Music Master. Or perhaps something even way more awesome than that. With extra money, I can make even more videos, and maybe even add some special effects! If I reach $5,000 in funding, I'll be able to visit the "weapons" shop and upgrade to a fiddle that will last me a lifetime. It will come in handy if I ever encounter the Devil in Georgia or elsewhere. I'll need everything I can get to outplay that particular monster! If I raise something ridiculous like $10,000 I will hire a team of internet goblins to create a Violin Monster RPG game. It's an idea that's been in my head for a while, and I think it could be outlandishly sweet. I can never thank you all enough for the support that you've given me, and I wouldn't have made it this far without everyone who has contributed a dollar in my case, great photos, heartwarming comments, blog posts, news articles, tumblr shares, and everything else that makes Violin Monster not only about myself, but about anyone who wants to get involved!
