About this project
Cavern Kings is an infinite action platformer designed to make every playthrough unique and interesting.
Inspired by action-packed games like Vlambeer's "Super Crate Box" and the increasing difficulty aspects in "Risk of Rain", Cavern Kings aims to explode with special effects in classical arcade fashion and create interesting synergies with its powerup system.
Cavern Kings' powerups stack infinitely, which can lead to some pretty crazy results! Here we can see the difference between one Volcanic Bomb and five:
- Four playable characters with special abilities
- Randomized terrain and monster generation
- Weapons that play and feel unique
- Completely unnecessary amount of explosions
Never-ending difficulty that gets harder as you progress
- Four big, bad, boss monsters ready to crush you
- Bestiary and logbook to keep track of all your encounters
- Beautifully crisp and lively pixel art
A grand total of 50 powerups to help you dig deeper
- And a chiptune-influenced soundtrack by Ryuno:
Cavern Kings started roughly a year ago as a gamejam entry and has undergone a complete overhaul to get where it's at today. Somewhere along development I decided to stop screwing around and make something I'm proud of, and that's how Cavern Kings was born.
I've redone all of the graphics from scratch, re-programmed the entire game, and re-designed the project to make it something bigger and better than I could have ever imagined.
I will be able to port the project to PC, Mac and Linux if we hit our funding goal for everyone to enjoy!
As of writing this, the game is roughly 80% complete (less if stretch goals are met) and I need a little help to cross the finish line. As the sole developer for Cavern Kings, I'll need a bit of cash to help with polishing the game and getting it in tip-top shape for release.
This Kickstarter campaign was primarily created to commission outside help and I don't really expect to see any of the money for myself. All the funding on this project will go directly to the musician, artist and development of stretch goals!
(Despite the reward on the sidebar not mentioning it, $1 backers WILL be credited in the game, sorry for the confusion!)
Backers who have pledged $10 or more will have access to closed betas as they're released, and anyone else (including non-backers!) will have access to the original demo at the link of the bottom of the page.

Risks and challenges
The biggest risk that could come to this project is a delay in release, but it will see the light of day in due time! We'll make sure to keep our deadlines in check to ensure this doesn't happen though!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Yes! In fact I've already begun developing a good control scheme for it. Cavern Kings should work on both twin-stick controllers and older gamepads.
Cavern Kings will be available on PC, Mac and Linux if we meet our primary funding goal of $2500. I've arranged for PS3, Vita and Wii U versions if the game gets enough attention as well!
If you have pledged $10 or more, you will receive all future betas AND the full version of the game on Steam. Betas will be available on Steam's Early Access one we're Greenlit!
