What this is.
This is an ethereal illustrated fiction story about discovery that is being developed for both printed book and e-book form.
The inspiration for this story comes from a shorter work I wrote two years ago that focused heavily on the unique friendship and developing love between two characters -- "the earth child" (a girl from Earth) and "the star child" (a boy from the stars). I wanted to take those two characters and their tale and expand upon it, both in length and scope.
The story in "Children of Earth and Star" focuses on the friendship that builds between the earth and star children. It follows them from their initial meeting forward, telling the tale of their journey together as they discover themselves, each other, and the world around them. Readers will be shown various scenes dealing with important life issues such as trust, loyalty, family, responsibility, love, and much more.
The final book will have a written story covering roughly 40 pages, while the full color illustrations will cover an additional 20 pages on top of that.
I will continue to work on the story until completion, and if this project is fully funded, I will move forward with my talented illustrator to breathe that extra level of visual life into the experience.
As of this writing, we have completed the front and back cover art as well as the first five inner illustrations (get a peak by watching the video above!). As the goal here is to have at least 20 illustrations created for the book, we have a good amount of work left to do.
When the story is finished and all of the illustrations created, the book layout will be designed and a few test runs of the book will be printed. I will be pushing very hard in seeking professional publication through a traditional publisher (I live in New York, and I will be personally delivering printed copies to publisher offices). That, or I may be open to publishing with Amazon and their new publishing program. I will be relentless in seeking publication, but if too much time goes by and publishers do not show enough interest, I'm prepared to self-publish the book in order to make sure it is available to the world in 2012.
Where your money goes.
Simply: illustration work, book layout and color test printing, and book copies for publisher submissions.
If this project funding goal is surpassed, I will use the extra funds to create even more illustrations for the book (right now I am looking at 20 illustrations with the current funding goal). If we end up well past the goal, I will print as many copies of the final book as possible and donate them to local public libraries in New York (and beyond, if possible).
The rewards involve various forms of illustration work from the "Children of Earth and Star" book, copies of the book (in digital e-book and physical bound form), and even custom illustrations set in the book's visual world.
Most rewards will go out very quickly once this Kickstarter project ends (and, of course, if it is fully funded). Some rewards -- namely those relating to the final published book -- will take a while longer.
If you haven't already, please check out the main project video for this project (above). It shows portions of some of the completed illustrations. I think it will give every potential backer a very solid idea as to what this book project is all about.
