1000 Yard Stare -- the photobook -- is one of four components of
.. our multi-media documentary project.
We need $1970 to print up 100 hard copies for promotional purposes.
Please consider the following:
Viet Nam: An Inner View is a purely apolitical, expressionistic work that transcends the war in Vietnam, exploring the combat experience & its effect upon warriors. The documentary is built upon an all-original soundtrack and on the thousands of photographs taken by Marc C. Waszkiewicz during his three tours in country.
Our intent is to advance a continuing national dialog on veterans' issues, the causes and effects of PTSD, and on the history of the war in 'Nam. We intend to distribute to professors, counselors, veterans & their families, and peace-leaning folks as well, in hopes of continuing the healing.
Seattle's Mike Thompson, a multiple EMMY-winner and former Senior Video Editor at Alpha Cine and Victory Music, is our lead video editor and videographer. (Note: this Kickstarter video was produced & narrated by Lea Jones; Mike has bigger fish to fry.)
For 1000 Yard Stare (and for our ongoing film production), the scanning and rezzing up of photos was completed this spring (thanks to photo editor Crista Dougherty, of Poulsbo, WA). We now have over 3000 strong shots to work from, far too many to use in this first round of publication.
1000 Yard Stare - the photobook - will run ~100 pages, landscape format, 8.5x11, full color. We will, of course, be offering eBook versions and apps with multi-media, but we need ~100 promotional (hard) copies for distribution to media and select veterans' organizations (like the VVA).
This round of Kickstarter contributions will go exclusively toward printing these promotional copies of the photobook. We're confident that, with these books in distribution, we'll garner the attention & support we need to keep moving forward. This astounding collection of photographs is definitely worth seeing.
We thank you in advance for your time, consideration, and generosity.

Risks and challenges
I, Lea Jones, have been involved with the project since the early 90's when Marc and I co-wrote the soundtrack, Warspeak (which has been heralded by veterans and civilian music lovers alike). This project is Marc's lone "bucket list" item.
We've faced setbacks aplenty over the years and have kept on plugging.
Just recently, the team has grown. We have the 'all volunteer army' of players in place (see our "About You" section). Nothing will halt completion of the full project, which we expect will garner national attention when released.
Printing and distributing the photo book is not rocket science. We get the money; we print the books. Hard copies of the photo book are to be printed (100 for $1870), and that's that. All future printing is done on a per order basis. The book is also to be available as an eBook and as a series of apps.
IThis is as good a place as any to say 'thank you' -- Kickstarter folk -- for your time and consideration -- and for providing this very slick medium for soliciting donations and support.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
