About this project
WE ARE LOOKING TO RAISE FUNDS TO PARTNER UP FOR A MULTI-TIERED RELEASE.
A) PARTNERING UP FOR A THEATRICAL RUN IN LOS ANGELES WITH THE LAEMMLE THEATERS.
B) LIMITED RELEASE OF THE FILM ON AN EXCLUSIVE DVD & BLU-RAY THAT SAME WEEK.
BREATH OF HATE - Teaser Trailer
After strong performances at FILM FESTIVALS in LONDON (GoreZone UK), SAN FRANCISCO (Another Hole in the Head) and the FANGORIA festival in INDIANAPOLIS we are looking to show this film to a MUCH LARGER AUDIENCE.
Your support will enable us to have a WEEK LONG THEATRICAL RUN at LAEMLLE'S NOHO 7 in LOS ANGELES along with press coverage by the L.A. TIMES and L.A. WEEKLY. PLUS an exclusive DIRECTOR'S EDITION of the film on DVD & BLU-RAY that will include extras not to be found during the regular release.
A hooker named Love (Lauren Walsh) meets a trick named Ned (Jason Mewes) and finds true romance. With a meaningful future in sight, she decides to quit the business, but is forced to go on one last job by her pimp. This turns out to be for three escaped mental patients.
Love and Hate (Ezra Buzzington) battle it out for life and death, across the thin line between pleasure and pain; while Ned tries to be that dude on the white horse that saves the day.
Hollywood is in a transitory period while they figure out new models on delivering movies to a mass audience that make them money. Meanwhile, films that don't easily fall into certain categories are being overlooked.
"Breath of Hate" is supernatural revenge thriller is not 'horror' enough for distributors yet too trashy for those more lofty arthouse companies. We've decided to try an NEW form of distribution. Bypassing the middle man and going straight to the audience.
That's where YOU come in. We need YOUR help to prove this is the future of distribution. We strongly believe in this project and think you'll love it too.
"This isn't simply a film where old ideas are rehashed and rebranded, but rather a redefining of what it is to be a horror film."
- Michael Wilson of Trepid Nation
"Breath of Hate is a great change of pace from your run of the mill indie genre film...it has ridiculous presence, thought-out characters and intriguing scenarios from writer, Wes Laurie."
- Matthew Fong, AdvancedScreenings
ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
“Breath of Hate” is the second collaboration between director Sean Cain and screenwriter Wes Laurie. Their previous project together was, "Silent Night, Zombie Night" which was released in October, 2011 on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Pre-production proved to be difficult as “Breath” was the type of script that depended on hiring exactly the right actors for the job. The final piece of the puzzle being Jason Mewes. Previously known for his stoner roles in various Kevin Smith comedies as 'Jay' to Smith’s 'Silent Bob' he always played a goof, but Cain had a feeling that Mewes would be a perfect Ned. A romantic leading man with a touch of Dungeons & Dragons in him.
Principal photography took place in August of 2009 over the course of 14 days. While most of it took place in the Malibu hills one day was set aside to film the strip club scenes for the movie.
Filming took place at a real strip club that had recently lost its liquor license and so the owners had nothing to lose letting the production take over the building. On the day in question it was filled with beautiful women thanks to the efforts of alt-porn icon, Joanna Angel. Her tattooed look was the inspiration for the Suicide Girls.
DROWNING IN FLAMES - By Skull Tape
LOVE'S PROMISE - By Mario Salvucci (part of the "Breath" score)
Risks and challenges
Before I embark on a project I do my research. According to the Laemmle theaters we would need to book the film at least a couple of months prior to the screening. Having worked with them previously on my first film I found them very easy to interact with and accommodating. If this campaign begins in October and ends in November then we would have our premiere in January 2013. The DVDs and Blu-Rays would be shipped to coincide with the screening. Items that are sent in a digital realm would sent late November/early December.
This particular project is not complex. We are putting a movie in a theater. A movie that I would like to give the general population a chance to see. I hope you can join us for this special event. Thank you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
