Pareidolia is the psychological phenomenon of seeing a recognizable image in something otherwise random, like clouds or wood grain. About a decade ago, I spilled and blotted some ink on paper, and began drawing what I saw in the ink: laboratory equipment and glassware. That was the beginning of a body of work that I continue to cultivate and transform. Last summer (2011) I was an artist in residence at the Santa Fe Art Institute in the high desert of New Mexico, which resulted in a new variation of these drawings.
A few weeks ago I received acceptance letters from two competitive artist residencies in upstate New York. I also received some financial assistance from the organizations, but the cost of my stay and creative research is not fully covered yet. During my residencies, I will pursue a new series of Pareidolia drawings, this time inspired by my two-month exploration of the Hudson Valley. I need your help to make this project a reality. <3
In the column to the right you can pick a reward for you to enjoy (while at the same time backing my project). It's a win-win!
PS: Here is a picture of the ceramic cups that are listed as the $20 reward.
