---- Why are we making this show?
The 1st Annual Gay Show is dance theatre for queer people made by queer people. Our show focuses on the complex experiences of queer people of color living in America and we are devoted to showcasing queer excellence outside of the lens of social norms or popular culture.
Queer people, and queer POC especially, are too often portrayed as simply fabulous and fun and their stories are used as a means of entertainment, but in this show we want to show a more wholistic perspective of the queer experience. We want to share not only joy and fabulosity, but also success, failure, talent, shame, and pride.
---- What is the show?
The 1st Annual Gay Show is a spectacle filled piece of verbatim dance theatre that both pulls directly from and abstracts the format of a traditional southern beauty pageant while dissecting the ideas of queer visibility, diversity and inclusion, and the role that outward vanity plays in the queer identity.
The 1st Annual Gay Show pushes past the surface level of simply including trans and queer people of color and instead brings their stories, and unique experiences, to center stage and pulls back the curtain (puns intended) to reveal the nasty truth behind the smiles, the glitz, and the glamour.
---- Why do we need your help?
We are a brand new group and because of that we lack the funds to be able to produce this show on our own. Thankfully, our show is one of eight works chosen for the Festival of Independent Theatres at the Bath House Cultural Center this year. FIT alleviates much of the financial burden by providing a performance space, marketing, and unique festival that exposes us to a wide audience. However, costuming, props, and most importantly paying our artists is up to us. This is why we need your help! A donation to our campaign helps us continue to make theatre like The 1st Annual Gay show and your donations directly goes to supporting queer and trans artists of color!
Help us reach our goal of $2000. Funding is all-or-nothing so it's imperative we reach this goal. We want give our performers a well deserved stipend for their fierce talents, time, and dedication. We need you and your support, for you to spread the word of our show, and then please come see it! We can’t wait to see you there!

Risks and challenges
We make dance and theatre to connect to people and to understand ourselves better. This is a massive feat that often happens on little to no budget. For this project we need your support to help the show connect, reflect, and explore these ideas of humanity as best as we possibly can! Anything helps!
