Our Kickstarter campaign is over, but you can still get the book.
Head to the www.retrash.com shop to get your copy.
Thank you to all of you that have supported Retrash!
My name is Nathan Devine. I have spent the last three years working with 82 designers and artists from around the world to bring together the most creative and innovative upcycling ideas.
This book represents a small part of the solution to our growing problem of waste, which is to inspire others to get creative while helping the environment at the same time.
I have designed the book and it is ready to go, but I need your help to raise money to send it to print. You can show your support by backing this project with $35 and get yourself a copy of the book at the same time.
If we reach our goal for the book, we will be able to print 1,000 copies of Retrash on 100% recycled paper.
Countries represented in the book include Australia, United States, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom, Canada, Israel, France, Romania, Malaysia, South Africa, Thailand, Netherlands, India, Portugal, New Zealand, Italy, Argentina, Belgium and Hong Kong.
Mother Nature Network: “...Nathan Devine’s Retrash is one of those projects that’s such a great idea, it has grown much bigger than him...”
Connect for Climate: "...This movement of people is more than just about reusing waste, they each have a philosophy and a way of living that is sustainable and creates awareness around the impact we humans have on our environment..."
Inhabitat: "...these wonderful artists help reduce waste ending up in landfill every year, and Retrash urges others to do the same..."
Upcycle Studio: "I love being inspired by what others are creating around the world, and the way they find the beauty in whatever materials they use."
WWD Fashion: Book traces trash made into fashion
Retrash is all about reusing trash by upcycling, repurposing, reusing and recycling. This book focuses on one small part of the solution to our problem of waste, which is to reuse the materials we already have, to reduce the need for new materials through logging and mining.
Retrash is about changing perspectives on how we view trash as a society for the better, so that we can all play a part in the solution.
Reusing trash is something I have been passionate about since I was very young. My dad used to have a lawn mowing business that my brothers and I worked in on weekends, and on occasion we would take rubbish away for people.
I remember that every time we would go to the dump I would be really excited at the idea of what I might find. One time when we went, there were three or four small black and white TVs, and my dad let me take them home to clean up and sell. That was my pocket money and it was that event that sparked my passion for reusing trash.
Here is a video that I launched over three years ago to get people involved with the Retrash project.
Risks and challenges
I have designed the book myself, all we need to do is get our editor to check everything over before going to print.
We have already sourced printing quotes and have selected a printer months in advance. We have reverse engineered the book so that we can offer FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE by keeping the book under a certain weight.
Schedule: The book will ship in September 2014.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
