About this project
This is our second Kickstarter project since Hiya and just as we did there, we designed this new project to help you simplify your life!

⌂ Houses for Objects ⌂
“Houses for Objects” is a simple design to better organize the everyday things in your life. One of the best ways to organize clutter is to have a dedicated place where your things live. Instead of putting things down in random places, give your objects a home!
⌂ The Design ⌂
Houses for Objects is:
A Friendly Reminder
If you have your items displayed, it’s easier to remember to grab them before you leave. If your objects have a place to live, it helps prevent misplacing or losing them.
Collapsible and Non-Permanent
Because each house is not permanent like the ones you bolt on a wall, you can take it apart and put it away whenever you want.
Each house is designed as a decorative piece so even when you don't have your objects on them it still looks good.
⌂ The Project ⌂
We're looking to raise funds to produce the very first run of these Houses for Objects. With the minimum funds we collect, we can produce our first run of Houses. We designed three “Houses” to help organize your life: a Watch Display, an Eyewear Hanger, and a Key Hook.
Watch Display: Turn Your Watch into a Clock
OR: Act as a Wearable Charging Stand
Wearing a watch while you type on a keyboard can be annoying. The Watch Display can hold on to your watch while you work and converts your wristwatch into a clock.
Key Hook: Relief in Knowing Where Your Keys Are
OR: Hold your earbuds
Don’t be late looking for your keys again. The Key Hook can hold a few keys or greater number of keys. We prototyped designs so it’s difficult to tip over regardless of the number of keys you have.
Eyewear Hanger: Prevent Scratching and Scuffing
Or: Hang your headphones (if it's not too big)
With the Hanger, you have a place to put your sunglasses or reading glasses. Since you won't put them randomly down on a table, it can help prevent them from getting scratched.
⌂ The Colors ⌂
Houses For Objects comes in four custom colors.
⌂ Falling Water Green
⌂ Sky Fall Orange
⌂ Case Study Yellow
⌂ White House White
⌂ The Material ⌂
We used wood to bring out the uniqueness of each piece. Because no two wood grain patterns are alike, each House is a unique piece for your home. The alder wood we are planning to use is commonly used in furniture. It's also softer on the things you place on the Houses versus other materials like metal. With the warm feeling that wood brings to a space, it can be a great compliment to your home or office!
⌂ Development Process ⌂
To develop our Houses for Objects set, we started out with sketches and moving on to cardboard prototypes. Once we got the angles and stability of the Houses to a place where it was stable, we used lasers to create wooden prototypes. When we liked the shape and design, we had a manufacturing facility create production ready prototypes using a CNC machine. We'll use the same process to create the final production pieces for you.
⌂ Production Plan ⌂
We are at the final stages of the production so we have located a CNC manufacturing place here in Los Angeles. We spoke with four places and the place we chose offered the best price and timing. We also have a local supplier of the wood, but we are still seeking other alternatives that are of equal or higher quality. The custom paint is mixed locally in Los Angeles.
⌂ Schedule ⌂
We will most likely go much faster than this schedule, but seeing as how other Kickstarter projects are sometimes delayed, we are leaving room for unexpected challenges.
⌂ Kickstarter Campaign (March/April)
⌂ Production Prep (April)
⌂ Production Machining (May/June)
⌂ Production Painting (July)
⌂ Packaging/Shipping (August)
⌂ About Us ⌂
We run a creative agency out of Los Angeles called Potluck. We work on a variety of projects for different clients involving strategy, research, design, and production. We have a great grasp on design and production so we're confident we can deliver Houses for Objects with the highest quality.
Risks and challenges
The costs for CNC machining the wood can be expensive but we received a cost estimate from a local vendor already. We based the reward tiers on these estimates. We calculate that the funds are sufficient to produce the Houses.
The procurement of the wood can have some uncertainties since not all suppliers provide the thickness that we are using. The availability could affect the schedule. To resolve this uncertainty, we found a local supplier that can make our custom thickness to meet our design guidelines. If there are any issues we can visit their facility.
If the CNC production facility we scouted does not workout, there are several other machine shops around the city that are a possibility. If that does not pan out, there are many more around the country that can produce these pieces. This also applies to the wood supplier because there are several wood distributors in the area, as well as the entire country.
The production and fulfillment of delivery is a concern for many people because this product is new. Please rest assured that with our previous experience in running a successful Kickstarter project, we understand the logistics of production, shipping, and keeping you informed on the process. This understanding will help us deliver these Houses to you in a timely manner. Also one of Eric's expertise is in managing the production of goods. He's worked with startups, celebrities, and established companies to organize the production of products like watches, headphones, and iPhone cases. Our promise to you is that we'll keep you updated on the project progress and keep you involved.
We hope you're as excited about the creation of these Houses, as much as we are.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
