What a difference a year makes! This time last year, VCA had just relocated to 7th and S Streets, built out 20 studios and was hanging tough in anticipation of what the future may bring.
That future has proven pretty bright. Since you last saw us, Verge has added 6 more artists to our ranks, for a total of 26 resident artists in our studios. Since relocating in April of 2010, VCA has raised substantial funds in order to continue our programming and expansion in the new building. These funds will contribute to the completion of the studio project, bringing it up to 37 studios total, two exhibition spaces, a classroom, and a fine art print lab.
In addition to private fundraising, VCA received a first place Arts Innovation Fund Grant through a partnership between the Sacramento Regional and Community Foundation and the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. VCA Executive Director Liv Moe was recognized by the Sacramento Arts and Business Council as Arts Executive of the Year. Moe's programming at VCA has also earned her recognition through the Sacramento News and Review and Sacramento Magazine.
Verge took 2nd place for Best Gallery this year in the Sacramento News and Review, after our temporary exhibition space just reopened this summer. We also forged a series of partnerships this year with several other local organizations: the Crest Theatre, the Sacramento French Film Festival, the Center for Contemporary Art Sacramento, PRIDE, the B Street Theatre, and Axis Gallery.
Our second Kickstarter campaign is raising funds to continue operations at Verge, which is crucial to completing our programming and expansion campaign for the project. Given what we've completed in 2011, one can only imagine what's on the horizon for 2012. We hope you will consider making a contribution to the ongoing execution of this project, so we can share VCA's successes together. As a community, we can build Sacramento's first multi-disciplinary art center!
