UPDATE!!!! VCA's Kickstarter campaign has now reached its funding goal thanks to the support of sooooo many generous individuals. Our fundraising won't end here though folks. Now that we have the permit we'll still need the money to build this thing. Any donations received over and above the initial funding goal will be put toward construction in the hope we'll reach the completion of our project that much faster!
Verge Center for the Arts(VCA) is in the rebuilding process in a new and bigger location. Formally known as Verge Gallery and Studio Project, the new building will house 37 resident artists, a classroom, printmaking lab, and two large exhibition spaces up from our first location which held just 20 studios and a gallery. So far we have raised $46,000 to build the first 20 studios in the new project, all of which are now inhabited by working artists. Moving into phase two we already have a waiting list for the remaining studios, proof positive that resources like these are virtually non-existent in the Sacramento region and in high demand.
Phase two of our project will complete the next 17 studios and printmaking lab, expand the bathrooms, and complete the classroom. To get there we need to raise $6,600 to cover our building permits so that all other donations and grants may go directly toward materials and labor.
That said we have launched a Paint Can Sponsorship Campaign with the goal of creating a massive donor installation in the space to reflect the collected efforts of those working together to make this project happen. $50 sponsors a gallon, $25 a quart and for that an artist in the program will sign the donor's name to the appropriate can lid and attach it to the wall. Sponsorships of $150 or more will grant the donor an original work of art by a resident Verge artist.
Anything over the initial $6,600 will go toward labor and material costs in making this project a reality for the Sacramento community.
