A Few Words Of Photo Wisdom...

If you are a lover of knowledge, wisdom and great art, this art book is for you! Based on an ancient method of learning; the Trivium Method. My book explores the philosophical question of creative free-will through text and images.

"...Real human potential comes from the desire to know. The Trivium method is a systematic way of utilizing that potential. Creative and critical thought is naturally born from this method of learning; leading to higher orders of judgment and ability (creativity)...."

The Trivium Method And The Photo Philosophy Book.

This update is a short overview of the Trivium method. A few of my friends recently asked me: “What exactly is the Trivium method”? I discovered this information (method) only 3 years ago when I was researching symbolism, looking to put more meaning into my photographic images.

The Trivium method is a systematic method learning consisting of: general grammar, Aristotelian logic, and classic rhetoric. A simpler way of expressing the Trivium is: knowledge, understanding, wisdom. Knowledge is the Who, What, Where and When of a subject. Understanding is the Why of a subject. And Wisdom is the How of the subject. This method can be used when attempting to learn any subject with little or no need for the consul of a teacher or perceived authority on the subject.

The Trivium method of learning was slowly taken out of the American education system beginning in the mid-1800’s and is now only taught in elite preparatory schools and a few select private colleges.

The Photo Philosophy Book explores the philosophical question of creative free will. And the structure and organization of the book is based upon the Trivium method:

• Part 1: is the grammar or knowledge of the book. The who, did what, where and when pertaining to the history of photography. The who, what, where and when of the artificial consumer culture and the collective consciousness which affects free will.

• Part 2: is the logic or understanding portion of the book. Logic involves using your brain effectively, learning basic rules about concepts, symbols and interpretation. Proper Logic will release your imagination and free your mind of fallacious thinking and contradictory rules leading you to be free to create whatever comes to mind.

• Part 3. Practice and action is the rhetoric or wisdom. Taking the knowledge and understanding of a subject and expressing what you have come to know in a proper way; through images and the “tutoring” of that knowledge to others. The result of parts I & II.

In the book, I precede the initial discussion about the basics of the Trivium method with the following quote from the classical philosopher Aristotle. Philosophy tells not so much about an individual man or woman, but about human nature, that holds true even today.

“All men by nature desire to know”. -Aristotle. Metaphysics.

This quote simply means all men and women are naturally curious and have an innate desire to learn. To live up to your full human potential one is naturally seeking information; the who, what, when, where, and why of things in existence. Real human potential comes from this desire to know. The Trivium method is a systematic way of utilizing that potential. Creative and critical thought is naturally born from this method of learning; leading to higher orders of judgment and ability. In the Photo Philosophy Book, I will elaborate further with a few other examples and more information about the Trivium through both text and images.

It is a very profound subject; a very helpful and important subject, A good place to start is the following link: www.triviumeducation.com I hope this brief explanation sparks more curiosity for those who are just encountering the concept and idea of the Trivium Method. Feel free to share this information and link to this Kickstarter to “know” more.

Thank-you ! D. Austin
