Two sisters must put aside their squabbles and unite to help lift their brother's strange demons when he comes home from the army. The Idols of Solanşehir is a moody fantasy with influences from Amélie, Pan's Labyrinth and Sandman.
The meaning of the title: Solanşehir is inspired by taking two words from Turkish and compounding them into one. "Solan" means "fading" and "şehir" means "city".
Together, the title means The Idols of the Fading City.
Rosemary does not believe in magic, in fact, it is number one on her list of things that are A Waste of Time. So it is particularly annoying that her sister has been investigating their town for signs of magic all summer - instead of doing something valuable, like volunteering at a hospital.
All is temporarily forgotten when their brother suddenly comes home from the army, carrying a curious artifact and tormented by visions of a mysterious realm. Both Rosemary and Rhett would do anything they can to help him, even as they clash with each other about how to best care for him.
Vera Greentea is the writer of the forthcoming GRIMOIRE NOIR (to be published by First Second/Macmillan) and is best known for her imaginative indie series Recipes for the Dead and Nenetl of the Forgotten Spirits.
Miyuli is the brilliant creator behind the popular comics Sentient, Hearts for Sale and Lost Nightmare as well as her stunningly detailed inktober sketchbooks.
We are running this Kickstarter from February to April, which we hope will raise enough funds to pay Miyuli for her gorgeous, full-color comics work, pay our ever-working letterer, print the book and the usual shipping costs, supplies costs, KS fees and relevant merchandise. The comic will be of usual lovely Greentea Publishing quality; 22 pgs. of story + extras, fully colored and professionally lettered. Our printer is American, so it's a bit more expensive, but we here at Greentea Publishing never mind sacrificing some money to save on costs to the environment.
Greentea Publishing projects tend to be light on rewards outside of the projected comic book, mostly because we like to give the bulk of the collected funds to the artist, but we've worked hard to bring something special this time; a sketchbook.
The sketchbook will include process art of character designs, a tutorial or two, and other artworks that didn't make it into the finished comic. We hope it will be a fun little object to own!
This comic has a particularly warm place in my heart and I'm so unbelievably delighted to bring the illustrious Miyuli on board to help me bring it to life. Thank you so much for considering our project!
