Hey, dearest gentlepunks! I'm Vera Greentea and this is Recipes for the Dead: Issue Three - Steam Minted Meringue!
Recipes for the Dead is a Victorianpunk-manga-ish comic series that follows the mad adventures of an ambitious baker who just wants to lift her pastry shop out of bankruptcy. Making one reckless decision after another, she attracts the attentions of a sinister neighbor, accidentally concocts a recipe that captivates demonic beings, and finds herself suspiciously much too charming to the boy who never paid attention before.
After finishing the appealing art of Recipes for the Dead: Issue Two to an immense amount of enthusiasm (thanks, you guys!!), I'm ecstatic to announce that Allison Strom is back to draw, color and enchant the third issue in the series!
If we double our original goal, we have a really pretty reward to unlock; a new tier! This tier will include a great quality Recipes for the Dead Coaster Set - featuring gorgeous designed pin-ups of the characters of RftD. The coasters themselves will be superhardy; made with slip-proof cork backsides, and waterproof, indestructible fronts. I think they're truly lovely and I hope that we can make them available to you.
And an exciting note: While you get the gorgeous gifts of our stretch goals, the extra money will be giving Greentea Publishing the benefits of being able to go to conventions and promote our comics, which in turn will help us make more fantastic comics, pay our artists even better wages, and keep growing. Thanks dearly, everyone, for making it possible for us to even get this far!
So, what are you supporting?
Recipes for the Dead: Issue 3 is fully-colored, gorgeously-detailed 22 pages of story. The money of this campaign is going to pay wages to the talented genius Allison for her work, the expenses of comic production (letterer, printer), Kickstarter fees and of course, shipping costs. Any extra funds that might be made will also bring at least one stretch goal and help send me (Vera Greentea) to a comic convention or two. My goal is to debut Recipes for the Dead: Issue 3 at NYCC this October (which means I anticipate having all the books and rewards created and shipped to you all by September!).
For $1: You get Recipes for the Dead: Dark Delight with Cranberries immediately. And for those who already have it, I've remastered it with all new lettering!
For $5: You get THREE digital comics, including Issue 3 before anyone else gets to see it!
For $120: This is a shimmery poster printed on special pearly paper stock. It's 11.5 x 17.75, numbered and signed by Vera Greentea and Allison Strom. It's absolutely luminous! Only a few of these exist because the company went out of business and I can't find anyone who can do posters in this precisely beautiful way!
Thank you all for checking out my project and I hope you decide to join the darkly beautiful world of Recipes for the Dead!
N.B. All art in the video is created by Allison Strom.
MUSIC IN THE VIDEO: All music is written and performed by Those Mockingbirds. You can find this awesome song and the rest of their music at http://www.thosemockingbirds.com/. After you listen to everything twice, you can tell them how much you love 'em at their facebook https://www.facebook.com/thosemockingbirds.
Risks and challenges
So many of you have already been supporting me for years now, and I just want to say thank you. I love making comics but I'm not sure how I would have found a way to continue to make them without your continuous generosity, kind words and an amazing amount of faith. This will be my seventh project on Kickstarter. There are those who wonder why I keep coming back to this particular platform, and here's my answer: I'm here not because these campaigns helps me give my artists decent wages (though I am lucky to be able to now!) or that I can experiment with making different kinds of comics (though how could I not love that!) but really, I'm here because I double-dearly love the interaction with you all. I truly enjoy the experience of hearing from my backers - your voices truly push me up and help me do the best job that I can. Creating art is a dream I've never dared to hope for until I met the kind community of Kickstarter. Every challenge that comes along, I already know that I will be able to solve it with you amazing lovepunks at my back. Why would I ever want to leave?Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
