Rewards Update, Goodbye to Gene, Status on Duke Ep 2, Duke Sale!

Hi All,

Sorry for not posting sooner, but I am very busy and have had to juggle too many things. Thank you for your patience. One problem is that I am doing this alone, and that slows down the reward process quite a bit. But enough with the excuses and let me give you an update.

Except for the Art Book, and any art work I am doing (maps, post cards, portraits), the physical rewards are all done. I just got the sample for the t-Shirts in the other day and they look pretty darn good. So they are being printed now. Here is a photo of it.

The red color in the first T-shirt was faded and almost a pale orange, so we saturated and darkened the red more and it really pops now and I am hoping it won't fade too much in the wash.

I am working on the art book this week, then I'll send it to the publisher, check the sample and make adjustments until I think it looks good. Then I will finalize the order. I hope that will not take more than a few weeks total. But I want the art book to look good.

Bill, why are you doing the rewards alone? Well that leads to some sad news for me: Gene Mocsy is moving on from Venture Moon. I hope he will continue making great games, but last we spoke that was not necessarily what he was going to do. Join me and wishing Gene good luck in whatever endeavor he takes on next and in thanking him for all the great work he did to make Duke a reality. Thanks Gene!

Gene wrote most of the dialog, created many of the 3D models, organize much of the production and scripted a huge portion of the game. We partnered on the game design. The game could not have been made without him.

So I will be handling the radio play duties and I hope to enlist some help in that area, but it's too soon to share the details on that.

The 'postcards' are not really postcards. I tried doing one but I felt the size was too small for me to do good work on so I increased the size to 9.75" wide and 7.5" tall, or 24.765cm wide by 19.05cm tall. each one is drawn in blue and lead pencil, each a unique pirate scene. Here is an example of what they will look like:

I sketch them using light blue pencil first in rough form, then do a more precise clean pencil line on top. I usually scan my sketches in Photoshop and lighten the blue to white, making the rough lines disappear.

I have them almost done but I want to take my time with them so the plan is to send the physical reward first then send the maps and the 'postcards.' That way you do not have to wait for all of it to be done. From then on when I am done with a reward I will send it out.

In other not bad, but not great news is that Duke Grabowski: Debonair Corsair is on hold until we sell a certain number of units. Alliance wants the first episode to prove it is a success before funding the follow up. And you can help with that if you so chose because Alliance has discounted Duke to $2 and the sales are picking up. If you all told all your family, friends and acquaintances about the game that could really help. Mean time Venture Moon and Alliance will continue to promote the game as much as we can.

But have no fear that I won't be doing any more game because I am in negotiations to make another non-Duke game while we wait for Duke numbers to reach our goal. I can't go to much into it because nothing is official, but I can say it is an idea that is very close to my heart.

Well that is it for now. I am off to answer Duke emails which I have regrettably neglected for a while.

Sincerely,

Bill Tiller

Best of luck to you Mr. Mocsy!

So... Bill... I don't mean to be pushy, but are you working on something that has the initials, or contains the letters AVS? (no not the video editor)

There goes the 'another episode every few months' story :(
Hope we'll have all five episodes developed and released at some time.
Hope more that I'm still able to control the mouse when it's done.
      Good luck with the publisher.
