Legends & Vibes is a brand dedicated as a statement to the modern fearless female. Our styles combine sophisticated edge with feminine glamour, and finish with a soft Southern California style.
Our goal is to create a positive impact, while inspiring change, and leading a movement by becoming the first sustainably sourced and vegan fashion brand available in stores nationwide. In other words, we are committed to the dismantling of animal enterprises through commerce while helping you look and feel your best.
Legends & Vibes has been two years in the making, and this Kickstarter is the first step in our plan to begin sustainably scaling and increasing our production runs. We’ve been working tirelessly to make this dream a reality — and with your help — we can all help make vegan, sustainable, and ethical fashion the future.
Eco-fashion is so much more than what something is made of. It extends into how those materials are sourced and repurposed. We understand that producing more clothing has an impact, so we are always looking forward at what we can do to minimise our impact, and create a positive change.
Closed-Loop Production is essentially circular fashion where new becomes old and nothing is discarded. We have adopted a closed-loop production system that tackles both pre-consumer and post-consumer waste.
- Pre-Consumer Waste is the industry waste that is created before it gets to the customer. Patterns are essential to clothing production, but the pattern cutting process itself is inherently wasteful with roughly 15-30% of the bolt of fabric being lost during the cut. It’s like cutting construction paper shapes. You can’t make a pattern without scraps.
- Post-Consumer Waste is the waste created by the consumer when they decide that an outfit just isn’t working out. Millions of tons of discarded clothing and textiles are sent to landfills every year.
Quality: Consumer waste isn’t just excess, it’s a quality issue. The easiest way to tackle clothing waste is to make clothes that last. When clothes are made well with soft, durable, and flattering fabrics, you wear them more often and keep them longer. We can reduce our carbon, waste, and water footprints by extending the lifecycle of our clothing. This is why invest in quality materials and craftsmanship so your designs are made to last.
Re-purposed Fashion: In addition to using recycled deadstock fabric, we began experimenting with ways to repurpose our own scraps. Then it dawned on us. Let’s create REBELIVES, a sister line to Legends & Vibes that is made entirely from renewable resources.
- We cut, clip, crop, dye, and patch unwanted clothing and excess materials into one-of-a-kind streetwear.
- We utilize any excess material from our own line and collect clothing from recycle houses
- We offer discounts to our customers that drop off their old denim.
We’ve built a strong team working towards the collective goal of creating a more sustainable world through our everyday actions, and more importantly, our working environment. We’re not worried about boy cooties, but we do believe in women supporting women. We have our fun and get things done.
We’re not new to the fashion industry. Our founder is the owner of Vegan Scene, a 100% vegan fashion boutique in Venice, California. Our production and development team has 20 years of combined experience working in the fashion industry. We've got the right stuff to make this happen.
If you’ve read this far, go you! Thanks for taking the time to get to know us. If you still want to learn more, you can find even more information on our website. This is only the first step in what we want to accomplish, and we hope you’ll join us for the ride.
Risks and challenges
While we’ve been developing Legends & Vibes over the past two years, the biggest challenge we’ve faced is the financial investment. Producing a fashion line requires a lot of upfront costs, especially when it comes to high-quality, sustainable materials and paying a fair and living wage.
We’ve worked very hard to mitigate the risks we face before launching our Kickstarter. We’re no stranger to Murphy's Law. It’s no fun, but we’ve learned to embrace it. It has taught us to always be prepared, stay calm under immense pressure, and learn valuable lessons from past experiences. We wouldn’t be as strong as we are now without them.
We don’t settle when something isn’t working out. We’ve had to move factories twice in a year. Once you’ve experienced that, anything is possible. We’re now working with a new factory right here in Los Angeles that we know and trust. We’ve even sourced a backup factory in case of a zombie apocalypse.
There is always a challenge designing with deadstock fabric when it comes to availability. We can’t depend on deadstock when we’re ready to take the line to wholesale. We’ve sourced new fabric with ethical cred in order to meet the demand.
We have secured all of our fabric, trims, and hardware options. We even have backup options sourced just because that’s what we do. We’re ready to roll.
Communication is key. If we run into any issues that may impact production or delivery times, we promise you will be the first to know. If demand exceeds our expectations, it’s possible that we may have to adjust your delivery timelines by order received. In preparation, we’ve added padding to our schedule just in case. It’s even color coded! We’re going to do our darndest to stick to it.
We want to welcome all of our backers to this exciting new journey, and we’ll be providing updates every step of the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
