COLONIAL SPACE WARS: INVASION is a tabletop wargame with 18mm scale miniatures that is flexible and optimal for the recreation of both small and large scale conflicts. Written by our specialist game designer José Méndez "Boldo", the mechanics are groundbreaking, strong and extremely dynamic. In his own words: "CSW INVASION is easy to learn but difficult to master, making it perfect for a wide range of players".
This crowdfunding has been created with the objective of making the wargame version of the acclaimed sci-fi board game CSW: FLESH AND STEEL. Now, with your support, we will release CSW: INVASION, a starter box to play in 3D with 18mm miniatures.
The project is developed by Vedra Games, a Spanish game publisher and organizer of gaming events. Vedra Games has successfully edited the board game CSW: NEW HORIZONS and its expansion CSW: FLESH AND STEEL, proving its capacity to professionally and efficiently manage a commercial project. In order to fulfill the challenge of the multidisciplinary working areas of this project (traditional sculpting, 3D modelling and printing, casting and photography), other Spanish specialist companies have been involved with Vedra Games in a seamless partnership:

We have made contributing to CSW: INVASION Kickstarter nice and simple, giving our backers a few choices of pledge level to support the campaign. The first one is called "Civilian", and is a donation. The next two pledges, "Pathfinder" (early bird) and "Trooper", are identical but for their price.

CSW INVASION Kickstarter is not merely an objective, it represents the beginning of a universe full of ideas and possible extensions. The board game version already counts four factions and more than 150 units and, in time, we want to reproduce that same range of units in miniatures for CSW INVASION, creating a full wargame with a promising future and a rich background. This Starter Box is just the beginning!
CSW: INVASION is a sci-fi tactical wargame that recreates battles between armies called Combat Swords. Each one is formed by a group of soldiers, drones or other creatures, represented in the game by metal or resin miniatures. These models move across a tabletop with scenery elements that emulate open battlefields, military complexes, the interior of buildings or spacecrafts.
Units can be classified in two groups:
- LIGHT (infantry): 25mm diameter bases.
- HEAVY (Big monsters, vehicles and buildings): 50mm diameter bases.
All miniature bases have a little hole, called Health marker. This is an easy and innovative way to let players keep track of any damage in battle, by inserting Health Marker Pegs in it. Units have four health levels: undamaged (no peg), minor damages (yellow peg), damaged (orange peg) and major damages (red peg). Once a unit has lost its protection, it loses one health level for each impact it suffers from enemy attacks in that same turn.
CSW battles are resolved by Turns, in which each player acts alternatively. Inside one Turn, players will both have their own Player Turn and perform their moves, depending on the COMMAND points available to them. A Turn will end when all the players, starting by the one with the initiative, have concluded their Player Turn.
At the beginning of his Turn, one player will add to his pool the COMMAND points given by his LEADER or NODE units. COMMAND points available can be used then to activate units, and each unit requires a number of COMMAND points to be used. This is what we call unit ACTIVATION. Once activated, the player must declare which actions the unit will do. He can choose:
When combining actions (3 simple or 1 simple +1 normal), players cannot choose more than one action of the same type (in the same row). SPECIAL actions are an exception to this rule.

Shipping costs depend on two factors, weight and distance. Since the number of Stretch Goals unlocked will determine the final weight of the box, we will charge shipping after the Kickstarter concludes. Then, we will collect those funds after the campaign ends.
Note that shipping costs are the same for "Pathfinder" and "Trooper" pledge levels, since ALL Stretch Goals are included for them as rewards. The following list shows rough estimated rates by region:
- USA: 10-20€ to most states. 30€ to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
- CANADA: 20€.
- EUROPE: 5€ to Spain, Andorra and Portugal, 10€ to Spain (Canary Islands). 15€ to France, Belgium, Netherland and Luxemburg, 20-25€ to Austria, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and United Kingdom. 35-70€ to other european countries.
- LATIN AMERICA: 50-60€ to most countries.
- ASIA: 50€ to most countries
- AFRICA: 60-75 to most countries.
- OCEANIA: 30-40€ to Australia and New Zealand.
Risks and challenges
There are always some risks and challenges associated with running a crowdfunding project. Vedra Games might be small in comparison with other Kickstarter publishers, but after our 3 years of existence we have earned an outstanding reputation with our current customers. Our previous crowdfunding (CSW FLESH AND STEEL) was very successful, and we accomplished production of the entire project on schedule, even dispatching orders before the promised date. Due to the different type and size of this project, we have already invested in sculpting and casting the first miniatures of the starter box. Now, our backers can have a clear example of our producing capability and the level of quality the game components will have.
In order to complete this project, we already have all the 3D sculpts for the rest of the miniatures necessary for the Starter Box and all the Stretch Goals. At this point, it is only a matter of achieving the funds for printing them and starting the production. Since all components are made in Spain, we can easily oversee the process. In addition to a meticulous work planning, Vedra Games maintains close contact with all companies involved in CSW INVASION, and we are confident that we can solve any problem that might arise during this final stage quickly and effectively. However, by pledging to this project backers accept that the final content of the rewards could be subject to change and eventually may differ in some degree from what it is presented during the campaign.
Rules are another important aspect of a product like CSW INVASION. Fortunately, most of the mechanics are based in the original boardgame CSW FLESH AND STEEL, which has been played and tested for years and has received excellent reviews. The changes introduced for the wargame have been actively checked in the last six months by our game designer specialists, and are now available as a BETA version (see above).
At Vedra Games, we prefer to work (and grow) in little but controlled numbers. This way we can guarantee not only the great quality of our products, but also speed of completion by avoiding huge orders that could delay (or eventually even cancel) the production. For this reason, this crowdfunding has been limited to a maximum of 3000 copies of the CSW INVASION Starter Box.
Finally, our estimated delivery date is December 2016. However, our backers should keep in mind that this is only an estimation. Due to the logistics of international shipping, some backers in different regions of the world may receive their rewards sooner than others. In any case we will work hard to make sure that our backers enjoy CSW INVASION by Christmas!.
Backers have 12 weeks after the crowdfunding ends to notify their shipping addresses via email and to fulfill the payments. Backers agree that our responsibility to them is to ship the rewards, but then the risk passes to them upon delivery to a common carrier for such shipment. Backers are responsible for any import duties (or others) that may be payable to the relevant tax authorities, providing correct address information and ensuring this address is deliverable by normal methods.
