For the last albums (apart from «Gorodische» which was released only because of Russian successful crowdfunding project) we had to get a bank loan to record and release for example «The Tale of Igor’s campaign», to print T-shirts which some of you already have (our friend spotted a guy in it in Dubai last year!). That was 8 years ago, and we finally paid it off this year. Our previous albums you can find here: https://vedankolod.bandcamp.com/
Band’s member Valery Naryshkin restores rare Slavic instruments such as the war horn, hornpipe, bagpipes, drums, gusli, hurdy-gurdy and others. VEDAN KOLOD has wide experience of concerts and festivals in Russia and Europe (Germany, Macedonia, Serbia, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Hungary, Holland, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, France, Malaysia and etc.).
A band without debt is a happy band — but most importantly, a band without debt has the freedom to tour abroad and share their music.
If we reach our goal - we're planning to prolong it with the project of touring not only in Europe in spring 2020 but also to tour in the US and Canada the first time in our life!
It’s no surprise that it costs money to record an album. This is how the expenses break down:
Making the CDs: $2000
$2000: Record and master the album here in Siberia
$250: Artwork for CD and jacket
$1,500: Limited edition of T-shirts and hoodies, post cards, thank you letters, handwritten lyrics, clothes’s design, making new unique instruments for new songs.
Total Costs: $5400
Kickstarter and the credit cards will charge a fee of about 8% of the total income. So, to receive $5400 from Kickstarter, this project must actually earn $5824 in support.
What will YOU get out of this project?
We are so glad to share our music with the world! Naturally, a copy of the new album is the first reward. We’ll offer it as a CD or a digital download, whichever you prefer.
But obviously, there is more to Vedan Kolod than this new album which has been waiting to be heard for about 5 years, and we’ve come up with some fun goodies to choose from! Of course you can choose from our T-shirts and special gifts, and our entire catalog of 7 albums of Siberian spiritual music.
We will send hand-written postcards, signed copies of our new album, handwritten lyrics of our songs!
What do we need from you?
Your encouragement and support. Pledge and get some of the goodies here on the right, and help us make this album happen.
Who are Vedan Kolod?
We are a family band from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, that have been playing and touring together since 2005. Born at the foothills of the Krasnoyarsk mountains we started singing with our grandparents when we were only 4 years old so traditional music has always been a part of our life. Our name means «prophetic tree» in ancient Russian language. We all know the historical meaning of the TREE that connects the Earth with the Sky, remembers our past and knows our future. Wooden instruments made with the wood can tell us the STORY.
Tatiana Naryshkina — vocals, gusli, flute, hurdy-gurdy
Valery Naryshkin — vocals, bouzouki, scythian horn, jaw haps, gudok, zhaleika
Daryana Antipova — vocals, drums
This Kickstarter campaign will occur at the same time as we start the actual recordings of the new album. We estimate to be recording in the studio through May and summer. The album will be mixed through September, and release in December or January by Nordic Notes label.
This release will be dedicated to our 15th anniversary in 2020!
Some press about us:
Vedan Kolod proposes a trip in search of the ancient and indomitable Russian musical roots. — Juan Antonio Vázquez, Mundofonías radio show, co-founder Transglobal World Music Chart
Vedan Kolod is a mystic music journey from the past to the farther past, from the Europe to the Asia and from the shamanism to the neo-paganism. Their ancient songs and sounds are towering like a big hill over the taiga from which you could see a lot of things hidden up to now. — Vladimír Potkan Potančok, Hudba sveta_FM, World Music Charts Europe

When these strongly natural-connected pagan souls once united in Siberia on an idealistic level, the creative senses of the spiritual visionaries had one thing in the most demanding kind in mind: to interpret the ancient times of their homeland before the forced Christianization as authentically as possible. A stable «Slavonic Ethno» soundframe serves the fourpiece from Krasnoyarsk as an enormously load bearing vehicle for their extraordinarily deep ambitions. Therefore one can enjoy pleasantly enthralling folklore sounds in a dreamy and soothing world music style. Vedan Kolod means «prophetic tree». As a result of shamanic-musical associations, the fervent Russian ancestor-summoner’s quartet has also taken full account of musically historian-romantic devotion on so far four fine albums. What Wardruna represents for Scandinavia, Vedan Kolod embodies for the Russian landscape.

«Daryana and her sister Tatiana, who founded the group Vedan Kolod, are two sisters from Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk. (...) Vedan Kolod’s music is a mixture of elements, predominantly drawn from Siberian folklore. (...) I think that „pagan folk“ is quite a good description, suggestive of a music that’s inspired by ancient culture without necessarily imitating it. Even through the medium of a studio recording, listening to Witch gives a sense of why the band are in demand at festivals across Europe. The powerful choral vocals transport us to a world of Slavic folklore, and the instruments add a pounding rhythm and some interesting sonic effects.».

There also will be a bonus! We’ll release a small album with rare Siberian songs, unknown to the audience (even for Russian!), the songs that we sing for ourself in a family parties and rehearsals.
Last but not least: Please tell your friends, bloggers, and anyone else you can think of, about this project! Tell Reddit! Tell Instagram! Post it on your favorite message board! Help us reach everyone who loves ancient music!
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges
For our Kickstarter campaign, we decided to set the goal at $6,000. In reality, the album will be more expensive. But we didn’t want to be overambitious, so we set the bar a little lower than the actual cost of the album, since it can still help us a great deal.
The album will be made regardless, but with the help of you guys through this campaign we will hopefully avoid debt.
We'll start shipping the album to all the backers along with the promised rewards in December.
We are aware that in campaigns like this unexpected things can happen that might prevent us from shipping all the rewards on time (a strike at the t-shirt factory or the earthquake in Siberia which happens unexpectadly:). In this unlikely situation we'll inform every backer individually about the progress and put our hearts into resolving the issue.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
