From the team who brought you SERPENTS, comes Pope or Nope!
His Holiness Pope Peter II lies on his deathbed. You are among the few Cardinals he trusts to serve as his successor, but you have to earn it by performing good deeds. To complicate things, the other Cardinals won't go down without a fight; they'll do everything they can to sabotage your every move.
Pay them back in kind.
Pope or Nope is played in quick rounds. Each round, players attempt to perform a good deed. Players then take turns sabotaging each other's deeds, redeeming their own, or using action cards for added strategy. The first player to complete 5 good deeds is the winner and may don the Papal Mitre.*
*Included in select tiers
Each round, each player is dealt 5 cards.
Players are given the opportunity to play a DEED from their hand by placing it face-down in front of them. Once all players have played a DEED (if able), all players flip their cards face-up. Subsequent cards played during the round will be played on top of these initial DEEDS.
Players take turns playing one card at a time, starting with the player holding the INITIATIVE TOKEN, and continuing clockwise.
A player's turn consists of one of the following:
- SABOTAGE - play a matching CROSS card on another player's DEED
- REDEMPTION - play a DEED of the next level on a CROSS card
- USE OF AN ACTION CARD
- PASSING - out of necessity, or strategically
When all players have passed in succession (or have run out of cards), the round ends.
ALL cards from the round are discarded.
Any DEED that is not CROSSED at the end of the round is worth 1 point to the player.
The first player to earn 5 points wins the game.
Pope Peter II may have ideas about who should succeed him, but His Majesty King Carlos II has his own list of papabili. Work collaboratively to defeat the opposition.
When playing with an even number of players, Pope or Nope can be played in teams. The first team to earn 7 points is the winner.
Watch our 6-minute comprehensive tutorial.
Numbered I-IV, these cards represent "good deeds" that each cardinal may perform. The higher the level, the greater the deed, and the rarer the card. DEEDS can be played on cards whose level is one less than their own.
Numbered I-IV, these cards give each cardinal the ability to sabotage the deeds of another. CROSS cards can only be played on DEED cards of the same level. If a DEED remains CROSSED, it will not be worth a point at the end of the round.
This card is used to "reduce" the level of any numbered card in play by 1.
When REDUCO is played on a Level I DEED, the player is thrust into "Dante's Infernope". This DEED is now Level 0 and is not worth a point.
This card is used to "cancel" a card that is already in play. All cards that may be "cancelled" feature the CANCELLO STAMP.
When placed in front of a player this card offers a new "opportunity" for the performance of a good deed, and the chance to earn multiple points in a single round.
Discard this card to draw two cards to your hand.
The POPE card acts as a "wild" DEED. However, it cannot be played to begin a round or to fill an OPPORTUNITAS card, and cannot be reduced. It is still vulnerable to sabotage with the correct CROSS.
When the POPE is played on a Level IV card, "Papal Infallibility" is invoked. This DEED can now only be sabotaged by a NOPE.
When the POPE is played on a DEED below Level I, he lifts the player out of "Dante's Infernope" and acts as a Level I DEED.
A NOPE card is the ultimate sabotage. NOPE can be played on any card in play and redemption is impossible.

THE HUNGRY GAMER
"I really enjoy the theme of this game. [...] I also really like the idea behind the mechanics. It is clever, and it is a good balance of playing cards on yourself and on others."
"Overall, Pope or Nope seems like an interesting and highly interactive game that is very simple to learn, but still has some strategy to it!"
"Our group really loved this game. I personally enjoyed it a lot, and found that Pope or Nope made for a very simple and easy game to bring out to the table. I would recommend the game to those looking for a fast-paced game with a lot of player interaction."
"It can get quite competitive (and that is exactly what I am looking for in my party games) we had a decent amount of laughs during the game. I advise you to look into this if your game shelf lacks that 'quick party game for everyone to get into'."
"Avec comme mécanique forte, cette possibilité de plus ou moins se concentrer sur ses actes de bonté ou ceux adverses."

Risks and challenges
This is the second game we've taken to Kickstarter. Last October, we successfully funded SERPENTS, a customizable hidden-identity card game, which we delivered to our backers in April.
While production of POPE OR NOPE will be a little more involved, we've partnered with some great companies to ensure everything goes according to plan. We are confident that we can provide to you a finished product that meets all your expectations.
The greatest challenge we anticipate facing is one you can help with. If you want to help ensure this project is a success, share this page with your friends and spread the word.
As always, we will keep our backers informed throughout the process leading to delivery day. If any surprises occur along the way there, you'll know about it.
Thanks for reading.
