Welcome to the VEARK - CK01:
your Single Piece Stainless Steel Chef's Knife.
I. Design - a knife is a tool
The inspiration for the design of the VEARK CK01 was drawn from the believe that the knife is a tool - maybe even the most essential tool in your kitchen.
Based on that idea we took visual cues from the world of traditional metal tools as inspiration for the appearance of our knives.
Our aim was to create a piece that will generate it's beauty and character from it's raw appearance rather than by adding features like wood and rivets - less is more.
II. Ergonomics - not afraid of the blade
Looking at how professional chefs hold their knives we developed the open handle design: It invites you to slide your thumb onto the blade and grab the knife right at the balance point - making it a pleasure to work with.
III. Manufacturing - classic drop forge
The manufacturing is done in a classic drop forging process which takes place in the traditional knife forging town of Solingen, Germany. Experienced craftsmen use all their skill to produce a knife of highest quality.
The drop forging process leaves each knife with it's individual pattern on the handle, just like a fingerprint.
So each knife is a unique piece - no two are alike. A beautiful detail that gives each knife it's own character.
IV. Hard facts - (58 Rockwell hard to be precise)
The CK01 features a 20cm (7,9") blade while the overall length is 32cm (12,6"). It is drop forged from stainless steel (X50CRMoV15) and weighs 200g (7oz.).
The typical Solingen knife has a hardness of 55-56 Rockwell, we even exceed that at 58 Rockwell. What that basically means is: a harder knife can get sharper and remain a sharp edge for longer (depending on use and maintenance of course - see also chapter V.).
V. Stay sharp - Diamond steel sharpening rod package offers
To keep your knife sharp as day one, we recommend the regular use of a sharpening rod. We will offer packages including a high quality diamond steel rod made in Germany. It's an oval steel rod, covered with microcrystalline diamonds, which will make it easy to maintain the sharp edge of your knife. We will provide proper instructions on how to sharpen your knife to all backers and we are also planning to make the sharpening rod available to all backers as an add on after the campaign.
VI. Delivery - Christmas cards for everyone
With the campaign ending on 9th of December 2018, we sorry to say that we won't be able to deliver until Christmas!
We will, however, send every backer a selection of digital Christmas cards in time for the holidays. Enjoy them for yourself, or print out as a gift if you're planing to give the knife to someone as a present. So you won't be empty handed underneath the tree.
We estimate to be able to ship the final product end of February / beginning of March 2019.

*All our currency conversions ( € / $ / £ ) are approximate values for your convenience. Campaign is run in Danish Crowns (DKK) since VEARK is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Final conversion to your local currency is done through Kickstarter checkout process.

We estimate to be ready to ship the knives out to all of you end of February / beginning of March 2019. We will keep you updated during the whole production process.

Risks and challenges
We are no fans of risky business (except for the movie with Tom Cruise).
As meintioned: We want to kickstart a sustainable business of creating high quality products and getting them into customers hands asap. And with more than 25 years of experience in product development, shared between the two people behind the VEARK brand, we feel more than capable to achieve that.
Our manufacturers have time locked for our production and have capacities to ramp up production if demand rises beyond our kickstarter goal.
We have our packaging in order and shipping & handling will be done by a professional fulfillment company. We will even order a second set of forging tools as a backup just to be safe.
So we are convinced that with your support this campaign can become a big success and we hope you will gladly back our VEARK Chef's Knife.
