What's it about?
Reboot follows J.R, a young boy who's village is ravaged by robots. He survives the attack and sets out with his robot to find out who ruined his life and make sure no one else is made a victim like him.
He's joined by Clementine, a wanderer who quickly decides to help the boy with his journey to hunt down the ones responsible.
J.R. is also joined by my personal favourite, Mr Friendly, an enormous robot who proves to be very useful in sticky situations.
There are no super heroes in the world of Reboot and the boy is often kept out of the fights. I wanted the story to avoid the 'invincible hero' cliché that's often portrayed in comic stories, so there's a bit of realism in this world that is ultimately unreal.
Ben is the artist behind Reboot Issue #1 and the guy's a genius. If you haven't heard of him you need to check out his other works. His simple yet stylish art work has already proven to be a great method of story telling.
Ben has illustrated and written a number of comics, both online and printed; as comics and zines. He has worked on professional projects for newspapers and stays true to his fan base by continuing and regularly updating his web comics. (DAYGLOAYHOLE)
This is me, I'm the writer. For the last few years I've scouted artists and commissioned them to illustrate the comics I write. I've worked with Shaddai Prejean (Shadman), Adrien Rouqui and Ben Passmore.
The comics I've written are: Final Boss Comic, Lorelai and now Reboot.
Writing and producing comics is a passion of mine. My ultimate goal would be to have one of my comic stories adapted into a TV show animation.
Stuart is producer and co-writer of Reboot, he's greatly helped in developing the story and characters as well as providing financial backing to get the project off the ground.
It's great working on a creative project with someone who you have similar interests with as you can really pour everything you have into it.
What do we need the money for?
For the last few years I have used money from my own salary, scraping a living to do what I love, produce comics. I've scouted artists that I enjoy and written stories I would be interested in reading.
We've seen lots of feedback and people really like Reboot so far, but now's the time to expand! Go further!
That's where you come in.
- We'll use the money to pay Ben Passmore to do the art work for more Reboot comic pages. (More single art pages etc.) We can tell more of the story and not thin it down due to budget restraints.
- Commission an artist to do a painted alternative special edition cover.
- With backers we'll have the money quicker, meaning we can get the comic produced and paid for faster. With issue 1 complete we can even start on new issues.
- We'll use the money to get large amounts of them printed so that we can sell them which will allow us to make them available to the public.
Risks and challenges
The comic is already half way complete. We have set ourselves a very healthy and easily obtainable deadline to account for any delays or problems which may occur, the comic should be completed around June/July.
In the extreme unlikelihood that the artist is unable to complete the last pages we may have to commission a new artist to complete the comic, imitating the art style.
Printing the comics will be performed by a third party and may be delayed. But we are highly confident the popular comic printing company we have chosen will be able to cope with our order and have it delivered to us on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The comic is around 24 pages+. We will add more depending on how well the Kickstarter goes and how much funding we get.
As we are such a small team it would be irresponsible of us to allow people to subscribe for future issues. We're a 3 man team, one artist and two producer/writers. It takes us a long time to create just the single comic and we could never put a date on future releases (Although an issue 2 is something i would love to do. Ben, the artist has also expressed interest in continuing the Reboot story beyond issue 1)
But for now all we can aim to do is get issue 1 complete and get it to the best quality we can.
My facebook is linked on the Kickstarter project page, you can always add me on there or 'like' our 'Vantage Comics' page on facebook too, to keep up to date with our future projects.
Thanks for the question!
