"Once more, Van Ryder Games has given us a new mechanism. Something I have not seen before. I really like this. They're doing a great job!" ~Ricky Royal, - referring to the Road Card system - in the Box of Delights play of Salvation Road part 2.
Many who've survived the apocalypse wish that they hadn't...
There isn't much left. Life is a game of survival. You've taken residence in a compound in the desert with several other survivors. Every day is a battle against hunger, disease, gangs that take what they want, and most of all, DEATH. And you are losing that battle...
You and your group have made the decision to try to find a rumored safe haven, an upstart community that is resource-rich and, most importantly, safe. You know you are going to need resources, most of all fuel for your truck, if you are going to survive the journey to Salvation!
Salvation Road is a cooperative game for 1-4 players (playable by up to 8 with a variant).
Each player controls 1 Hero character and 1 Survivor character. Together, you need to gather enough resources to survive the dangerous journey to Salvation. The nearby abandoned town of Maldito provides your best chance of finding what you need.
The thematic board will engross you in the game. Almost as if you truly are the characters and are discussing your plans at the table!
The game features 16 playable characters, 8 that are Heroes and have some helpful special ability...
...and 8 that are Survivors that have an ability that hinders the group...
There are location cards you will place on the Maldito map in the middle of the board. With the amazing art, a curious person looking at the game may not even notice that these are actually cards on the board!
"We found an old instant camera and have been using it to take photos of locations that could contain some supplies. This helps us plan our best move since it is EXTREMELY dangerous to leave the compound." ~Carl
You'll explore these locations and find the resources you desperately need. But each time, the marauder threat will grow. Each round, you will have to survive some marauder attacks and apocalyptic events such as Famine, War, Pestilence, and Death. With only some location cards in play, your experiences and potential strategy choices will vary from game to game!
"We can't just hang around forever. When we think we have what we need for the trip we will leave in our truck and make way for Salvation." ~Rosa
Throughout the game you will have the opportunity to scout ahead and learn what challenges lie on the road to Salvation. The road card backs (bottom card below) will indicate what TYPES of resources you will need, but not how many. If you are able to explore them, you will be able to flip them over and see exactly what you need. It is rare you will be able to reveal all of the road cards and even if you do, there is always a toll that must be paid when you arrive at the gates of Salvation!
As with the locations, the variety of road cards ensures a highly replayable experience!
"We've heard rumors of Salvation turning people away because they have nothing of value to offer. It sounds cruel, but I don't blame them for wanting some assurances that people are going to contribute. We just have to bring enough so we have something to offer when we get there." ~ Carl

Rules are nearly final but still need graphical treatment. There may still be minor changes made to gameplay and there will definitely be design and layout changes.
All Social Goals unlocked! Funding Achieved! $40k Stretch Goal?:
Here are your pledge options:
No one likes shipping. We all know that. But it does cost money to get things from here to there. To defray shipping costs abroad, we STRONGLY suggest trying to split a 3 pack with your friends as the shipping is virtually the same or only slightly higher than ordering only one game. All rates are subsidized based on what it costs to ship domestically.
Looking for something special for being an early adopter? The Signature Edition is just what you're looking for!
The Signature Edition will include a limited edition Metallic Dice Set that will not be available at retail. Engraved Metallic dice! How cool will you be when you pull out your metallic dice set for a game where there could not be a more perfect custom upgrade! It will be something special for the backers, the early adopters, the ones responsible for helping Salvation Road become a reality. Each of these Signature Edition copies will also come with a postcard sized limited edition numbered print signed by the MVP Design team! These will be available throughout this Kickstarter only and once it is over the prints will be numbered based on the number pledged for.
LAST 48 HOURS BONUS!!!!
A custom TOLL Die will be added to each Signature edition! See Update #12 for details!
* Note: The 3 pack level can get Signature Edition copies for an additional $45 or by adding $20 per copy if you only want some to be Signature.
Our primary goal is of course to fund the game for $35k and we are going to need a pickup in pledges to hit that. So we would like to add some cards to the game for hitting some Social Goals. Social Goals all relate to sharing the project with others. These are not exclusives and may later be used for promotional purposes if we are able to achieve them.

Van Ryder Games strives to publish highly thematic games with great gameplay. Van Ryder Games looks to publish designers that make great games, but more importantly, are great people. Salvation Road will be the 4th title under the Van Ryder Games publishing label and the first big box game.
A.J. Porfirio - Owner/Publisher/Developer
A.J. is married and a father of 3 strapping boys. He loves all types of games, but especially ones that create stories and provide a thematic experience. He found Salvation Road at the UnPub game convention in 2014 and signed it after evaluating the game and realizing it succeeds in doing just that!
MVP Board Games
MVP Boardgames is a design studio that focuses on building games with strong theme combined with streamlined mechanics. Salvation Road will be their first published game, but look for more from MVP on the horizon.
Michael Kelley - Lead Designer
Michael (Mike) is one third of the design studio, MVP Board Games. He and co-designer, Peter Gousis, work together on many game ideas. Each designer takes the lead on certain designs and for Salvation Road, Mike took the lead. Mike is an English teacher (believe me, I know this well) but also has a knack with numbers and probability.
Peter Gousis - Co-designer
Peter is co-designer of Salvation Road. Although Mike is lead designer, Peter has poured his heart and soul into the game. This duo really designs in a true partnership and Peter has put in just as much effort as his counterpart. Peter works in Sales when he is not designing games.
Venessa Kelley - Illustrator and Graphic Designer
Venessa has outdone herself with the art and graphic design for Salvation Road. Extremely professional and a great communicator, Venessa has been a huge blessing on this project and has really brought the ideas of Mike and Peter to life through illustration. Venessa has also done work on some of the expansion packs for the soon to be released Van Ryder title, Hostage Negotiator. She works as an Artistic and Marketing professional.
Chase Williams - Video producer and graphic designer
Chase does stunning video work and other graphic design for Van Ryder Games marketing materials from time to time. Chase has a real eye for quality.
Jason Mowery - Sound editor, Voice production, Script and Text Editor
Jason,a musician by trade (playing Juan at the beginning of the video) does amazing work making the video sound quality so high. In addition to this, he often serves as rules and cards text editor.
We really believe in Salvation Road. So, we are going to back it up with a Money Back guarantee for our Kickstarter backers. If you pledge to support Salvation Road and you decide the game isn't for you within 30 days of receiving it, you may return it for a refund.
Risks and challenges
Van Ryder Games has successfully funded three previous projects - our zombie game "If I'm Going Down...", the real time card game "Tessen" set in feudal Japan, and the solitaire game Hostage Negotiator which is set to release at retail after backers receive their copies in just a few short weeks. We learn more and more with each experience and improve each time. Our goal is to get the games to you, our supporters, as quickly as possible.
There are the usual risks of printing, shipping, customs, and other unintended delays, but you can be sure we WILL deliver the games to you as promised.
A few remarks we want to share with you regarding our approach for our projects.
1. Communication is of the utmost importance to us. Please ask any and all questions and we will answer as quickly as possible.
2. We have planned out the goals for this project, but feel strongly about not overextending ourselves for the sake of more $. If we are so fortunate to run through our planned stretch reward offerings prior to the end of the project we will not add more on the fly. This will help us stay within our capabilities, our budget, and the timeline for delivery. You don't have to look far for other projects that overextend; which only ties up more backers' money and delays delivery.
3. Your comments and feedback are REALLY important to us. If you have an idea, concern, or compliment, please share it with us! We can't promise to implement every idea that comes our way, but we will certainly consider each one!
4. We pledge to keep a positive attitude regardless of the success or failure of this project.
5. Let's have fun! Kickstarter projects can be stressful, but Salvation Road is a game and the most important thing is to have FUN!
