What if YOU were the star of the graphic novel? What if the story depended on the choices YOU made?
Sound familiar? You've probably heard of game books where you get to choose your path by reading a series of text paragraphs each ending with a fun choice. But what if...
What if a game book implemented GRAPHICS into the game play? What if instead of text driving the action, text AND graphics combined to create a visual sensory experience?
I'd like to introduce you to the next evolution of game books:
The Ultimate Solitaire Game Experience
I'll be straight up with you. We keep current with the Solitaire Gaming Community. After all, we have one of the most popular and successful solitaire board games on the market in Hostage Negotiator and catering to solo gamers is one of our core brand strategies. I am telling you right now these books are an incredible Solitaire experience. And they are so accessible even to those of you that don't normally play games solo.
- There is zero setup time. Open the book and begin playing. Start and stop at will, play time is whatever you want it to be.
- They tell a cohesive and engaging story.
- They include puzzles, riddles, hidden numbers, and other challenges that will test you at every step.
- "I need a game to play on an airplane tray table" - you cannot imagine how often we hear this from the solo community. Look no further!
- The books feature a variety of themes and story lines each with different rules and gameplay twists on the core system.
- Ok I'll throw my personal opinion in here. This is the BEST game book experience I have EVER had and it is hard for me to imagine going back to text based game books after this. And I've played all the greats like CYOA, Lone Wolf, Fighting Fantasy, Sorcery!, and more.
Still not convinced? Let's take a peek inside...
Looking at your character sheet, you'll decide how to split your 20 skill points between Strength, Dexterity, and Will. As you experience the book and fail the first few times, you will learn what configurations might be better than others.
Now that you are ready let's skip to the end of the intro (watch the project video for the full intro if you prefer)...
Which way will you go to start your adventure?
The rest of the frames in the book from this point forward have choices of where to go and what to do. You'll encounter foes, puzzles, traps, riddles, and much, much more! You'll need to hurry as time is tracked as you go... Don't move too fast though! You don't want to miss spotting a hidden number that could be critical to your objective...
Can YOU spot the hidden number in the frame below? (Don't worry, the below frame is from the intro and is modified. This is not an actual hidden number in the book - as to not spoil anything)
If this was real and not just a made up example, you would flip to frame 27 and perhaps discover the villain was holding something important in his hand.
I can tell you want MORE! Well to experience the adventure you are going to have to pledge for these books. But let's look at the other four in the set, shall we?
The sacred sprouts known as "the tears of Nuwa" have been stolen by 3 thieves. You are a bounty hunter hired to track them down and return the sprouts before the apocalypse is unleashed! And make a bit of money in the process...
You'll choose your primary skill... are you a master burglar? A master of disguise? Or proficient with thrown weapons? Choose one and grab your deadly poisons because adventure awaits!
Here is the map of the city you'll see when you start your adventure. Which district will you visit first? With book in hand you will simply turn to the frame where you want to go!
Will you find the Goddess' Tears and save the world?
If you don't know what Loup Garou means, here's a hint...
Yep, it means Werewolf (it's French). You've been bitten and you are now a young werewolf. You'll have to learn to control your powers if you are going to find your master and solve the mysterious events going on in the town of Whitehorn. You'll choose your profession and, using the skill tree, gain new abilities as you level up throughout the game!
Loup Garou features combat! You will fight monsters, creatures, human enemies and other foes! Like this Ghoul! (frame number and info removed as to not spoil anything)
Defeat your foes to gain valuable Experience Points (XP) and Loot!
Ever wondered what it was like to be the mayor of a small town in the wild west? Well here's your chance to find out...
No one said it was gonna be easy though! You'll build buildings on a map to earn income, create jobs, attract new citizens, and gain a whole host of other benefits (and sometimes consequences) to help you manage the critical aspects of town!
Your Town is the most complex of the 5 books and will take tons of smarts. Can you manage the town as a successful mayor? Or will you fail yourself and the townspeople who are depending on you?
It will take every bit of intuition and deductive reasoning you can muster to solve the cases in this one!
Choose to play as Dr. John Watson or as Sherlock himself. The unique system allows you to play over and over without learning the solutions of each case until you have successfully solved them. But will you be able to ignore your curiosity and play through it again without looking at the solutions?
You'll question many suspects along the way... but will you ask the right questions? Will your observation skills be up to the task? (Don't worry! The frame below has been modified and all text changed as to not spoil anything)
Use your instincts, your intuition, and most of all - your brains, to solve the Four Investigations!
If you aren't excited about these books by now then we are shocked! Quite frankly, we don't want it to end with these books! If this campaign is successful, we will be bringing you even more of these books in the future!
Still don't believe us? We sent preview copies of Captive out. Let's see what others are saying...
Listen, if you are a genius and lucky enough to get through one of these books on the first try, well then we bow to you (unless you cheated). But the chances are if you are playing legit, it will take you at least a handful of tries to complete one. You are looking at several hours of game play in each book. Think a bit like something similar to Time Stories in book form a bit. Not to mention each book has a point system of achievements you can try to accomplish. And these books are the sort where you can put them on the shelf for a year or several months and you'll be able to revisit them again unless you've got one of those photographic memories where you never forget anything!
The retail cost per book will be $22.95, so by choosing any of the below pledges you'll be receiving a significant savings. Choose the full set to get the best possible deal!
Concerned about shipping cost? Grab a few friends and add additional copies at the same pledge price for each copy. Additional full sets can be added without any additional shipping expense! For example, if you add 3 sets of books for a total of 4, you still only pay shipping as if you ordered just 1 set!
Limited advanced shipping opportunity for USA backers! We will be shipping some books by Air Freight to make sure we have product available (at full retail) for the Origins Convention in early June. If you would like your rewards delivered early, you can select the Advanced shipping opportunity for an extra $15. We expect these copies will be able to be delivered 3-4 weeks before the main shipping estimated in June. Limit one set per backer, additional sets are not allowed due to limited space.
We MAY add more quantities to the Advanced shipping level depending on Demand and availability to do so.
Graphic Novel Adventures are self-contained games within a book and are English translations we are printing under license of previously released French game books from publisher Makaka Editions. As a result, we will not be offering stretch goals for this campaign. However it should be noted that the more we achieve with this campaign, the greater likelihood we will be able to translate and produce MORE Graphic Novel Adventures!
"When will the books be delivered?"
Get this... files have already been provided to our manufacturer. They are standing by with their hand on the button. So we are planning to be able to deliver these books at lightning speed and are targeting June for our delivery estimate. We just need to hit the funding amount and then we say go!
We are offering retailer pledges for USA/Canada retailers that are interested in purchasing 4 or more sets of the books each including the slipcase. Simply back for $1 and send a message to the project creator to validate yourself as a retailer and get our retailer-only pricing. Then, prior to shipping from the factory we will ask you to finalize your quantity commitment, but you can pay at a later date prior to final shipping. We will verify all retailers!
