Since then we have researched, experimented, sniffed, and tasted our way to what we believe is the absolute best quality vanilla extract.
We are hoping to expand our vanilla making business. There is a huge variety of delicious vanilla beans from all over the world. We have experimented with smaller batches of beans from Uganda, Madagascar, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and a variety of other locations. We would like to brew them each in bulk, package them in individual bottles, label them, and purchase shipping materials. These items become cheaper when purchased in bulk, so we are asking for your help!

We have now purchased several pounds of vanilla beans from a variety of locations and are offering them as a sampler pack. No. We use alcohol distilled 100% from wheat grain.
It takes at least two months before a batch of vanilla is ready. We have a lot already brewing, but we need the capital from this Kickstarter to complete all the orders. We will do our very best to get you your reward as quickly as we can without compromising quality.
All of our products are recognizably "vanilla," i.e. the differences between them are subtle. However, we have noticed that different varieties complement different foods. Madagascar and Uganda, for example, are good all-around vanillas. Tahitian and Papua New Guinea are brighter vanillas, more fruity, and taste wonderful in smoothies. They also make fabulous vanilla ice-cream where their flavor can really shine. Indonesian is dark and woody and tastes really good in anything brown-sugar based: cookies, oatmeal, etc. These are just our observations. You will discover which are your favorites and what they go best in.
No. The deep caramel color you see in the finished product is the natural color of the vanilla. If you are using vanilla that is clear, it is artificial. Vanilla is dark.

We talked to our suppliers and this is what they had to say:
In terms of the "child labor" question, this is really a sensitive issue in third world countries. Virtually every grower of vanilla (as opposed to the "collectors" and "curers") in Uganda is a small, family farm, and to that extent, yes, their children do work in the fields. This is a far cry from the type of "forced child labor" that we in the West view as being highly abusive. So there is a real question of our "judgmental" attitude, based on our "first world" values on that issue.
I can tell you that the primary supplier we use in Uganda does have a "fair practices" certificate from their organic certification organization, that does certify that their production facilities do adhere to fair and proper methods. And their certification agency is a Western European certification organization (actually Scandinavian) - not African. So we are highly satisfied we are dealing with a reputable organization (and have done so for more than 7 years now.) Unfortunately, we are not at liberty to share their certificate with you, of course, in order to protect our source.
We are a very small operation, so we thought it might be a little overwhelming to open our project up world-wide during this first round of fundraising.

We don't know the exact shelf-life of vanilla, but as long as you keep it sealed and in a dark place the alcohol should do the rest. It is highly unlikely it will go bad before you run out of it.
