We have received lots of mixed responses about the art for this game.
Just like Scoffton itself, it is a little bit crummy. This was a deliberate decision we made for two main reasons:
Firstly, given the theme of the game; a bad suburban restaurant set in the 1980s, we felt a naive, cartoonish feel would really bring the setting to light. We were thinking along the lines of MAD magazine and early Simpsons episodes; crude and mundane drawings that shine a light on the everyday.
Secondly, Marcus’ hand drawn early prototype food tokens and cards had a certain charm to them, so much so that one day whilst puzzling over how to move forward Gavin’s wife told them, “this is the art right here, why are you talking about hiring an artist?”
After a period of uproarious laughter Gavin and Marcus realised this was indeed the way to go.
And so the decision was made. Marcus would do the art.
But boy oh boy would he need some help.
Marcus was not a complete novice. Back in his uni days he had self-published two issues of a comic entitled “Apathy Man”. The only technology used to make it however were scissors, glue and a photocopier. Having never used any form of image editing software or digital drawing Vamoose enlisted the help of Jonathan Calleja to essentially mentor Marcus through the process of using Photoshop, fix all the challenging bits and help create a cohesive whole to all the pieces bringing the world of Scoffton to life.
We are actually very happy with the results. (Of course, if funded Marcus has a few things he wants to fix up). And anyone who remembers the 1980s can spend hours spotting all the references and visual gags inserted in the art. We hope you find it as immersive as we do when all of the components are out on the table.Last updated:
We have listed the age range for Scoffton as 10+ as the game can definitely be enjoyed by children as young as 10 with appropriate guidance from adults, in fact this is where the ‘claw machine strategy’ often shines! However, Scoffton is a great candidate for games nights, if you don’t believe us then watch this!
We learned a few valuable lessons from our last Kickstrter campaign that made us re-evaluate all aspects of our campaign. Most notably, our original campaign was based upon the lofty ambition of printing 1500 units which meant our funding goal ended up being unattainable as an unknown publisher. With a new print run of minimum 500 units it will ensure that our new target is viable and also adds to the exclusivity of Scoffton. If the campaign takes off and we need to print more copies we will address that as required.Last updated:
Other than any retailers who specifically back Scoffton to stock in their stores it is unlikely that Scoffton will be available through retail channels. Any remainder stock will be offered for direct sale through Vamoose Co. Once again, if the campaign takes off and we need to pivot we will address that when required.Last updated:
