The recording of this album has been a very long process which lasted for two years, taking place in different studios and locations (including my bedroom and my kitchen) and involving many talented friends and musicians. Now I am very close to completion, but I need a little bit of help to give it the finishing touches.
But why a pledge campaign? I hear you ask.
You might have heard the tale of the struggling, penniless musician. Well, it’s not a myth, and there is a reason why that happens.
People study to make fridges, then they start making fridges, then they sell them. Because a fridge is a physical, touchable item, people understand it takes time and money to make it.
People study to make music, then they start making music. Then... they need to find another job to survive. Because music is not tangible maybe people don't understand the long process that lies behind it and the costs musicians have to face to create it.
It’s not magic, I tell you.
Would you download a fridge for free if you could? If you did, and everybody else did too, nobody would make fridges anymore. No more cool beers for anybody, folks!
Same applies to music. If you don't support an artist you like, they might stop making music at some point and all we have left will be the umpteenth Nicky-Minaj-feat-somebody-else's song about boobs and bums (which we might all like, but is that really the only thing you want to listen to for the rest of your life?).
Why should you help me anyway?
Half of a lifetime ago I was sitting on the floor of my room, listening to music that I loved and that made me feel full and happy. There and then I made a vow that one day I would be able to make people feel that, that I would use my music to make this world a better place, and give people something to make them happier.
Since then I have become this moth, flying tirelessly, attracted by the beauty of that light. But as the saying goes, I sometimes got burned during the flight and indeed it wasn’t a leisurely quest.
As I struggled with music, I also struggled in the other sides of my life, just like any other human being. I use music to heal my pains and amplify my joys. I have put my experiences in my lyrics and music, trying to offer my listeners tools that they could use in their own flights towards the sun.
A moth, towards so many different lights, I have written songs about the endeavours we all go through and collected some of these into my album “We Are Like Coloured Moths Towards The Sunlight”. This album is a suggested mode d’emploi for your own flights towards your lights, an atlas of human passions as I have experienced them, an obituary of human grief as I have learned to accept, live and learn from it. The 13 tracks are a journey that explores the struggles human beings experience when following their passions, in relationships, identity, career, society and so on.
But I can't send it into the world it without your help, now. Your support will help me with the final stages of mixing and mastering, distribution, PR and promotion of the album.
So if you like my music, or if you've just bumped into these words and notes and like them, consider the possibility of helping me finish my album and share my music with you and other beautiful people.
Please note that you can only pledge for one reward, so feel free to email me if you want to personalise your rewards adding or removing items from other ones :)
Risks and challenges
The recording process has taken a long time and a considerable amount of time and efforts (recording costs, inclusive of studio rates, musicians, mixing, mastering...).
This kickstarter campaign will help me give the finishing touches and release the album with a boom!
