EU Backers - Fulfillment Update and IMPORTANT QUESTION!!!!

Posted by V3G (Creator)

This update is for our EU Backers. We've just found out that due to delays in consolidated shipping with our fulfillment partner in the UK and their freight forwarder, it will be 2-3 more weeks before the games are even shipped to the UK, and then on to backers from there.

So the question we have is this: Would you rather us cancel this process and ship directly? We're prepared to do so, and could have all the games packaged and out early next week. The actual cost per unit at a game of this size and price point is low enough that it should be little to no impact on VAT fees, but we don't want to make that call yet for the group at large. We also thought about possibly reimbursing any excessive VAT fees (over $2-3 USD) if we go this route as well... but we need to hear from you before we make this decision!

Please post your comments in this update! (EU backers only, please!)

So... It's been a couple of weeks since the last update. Is there any further news to share? Do we have more of an idea about timescales yet?

I have no problem waiting... It's all fine :)

I would rather wait. Even if the manufacturing cost is low enough that the resulting VAT is below the threshold where Germany’s customs agency bothers collecting it, it’s still easy to make the whole VAT thing painful for backers: The cost and contents of a shipment must be clearly stated on the *outside* of the package; if not, customs makes you show up in person (a 30 minutes drive, in my case, plus waiting in line) to open the package – even if it then turns out that your VAT payment is below said threshold.

    5. Gunther DHoogh

I also am for waiting a bit longer, no problem at that!

    6. Lunar Biscuit on

Waiting 2 weeks is fine :) better that than potentially taking a huge hit which could prevent you making more games in the future on KS if you have to refund everyone!

    7. V3G 3-time creator

I think it's pretty unanimous at this point! We'll wait! :)

If V3G even going so far as to refund any customs fees over $3, I'm happy with whatever option is most convenient to them. If there is any risk of our having to pay customs fees (last fee I got hit for was €25 on a $40 package), I really would insist on waiting.

    9. Thupamart

No problem to wait. Thanks anyway...

    10. Stein Surland

      I'll wait.

Thanks for your consideration. Sounds like waiting patiently is the wisest recourse. I'm happy to wait therefore.

No problem. Happy to wait how ever long it takes :-)

I can wait, no problem. :)

    14. Antonio Ferreiro on

I can wait. I bought several copies, so VAT would be expensive.

    15. Frank Bongers on

      No problem to wait

Just keep everything as it was planned. I'd prefer to wait another 2-3 weeks instead of paying additional VAT fees and still waiting for the package because customs got it.

I'm happy to wait! Don't do anything crazy! If they're on there way that's good enough got me :)

More than happy to wait for the game. Thank you very much for asking.

    19. Ben King on

I'm happy to wait. Carry on as planned!

    20. Dagda

As long as I don't get stung by VAT or handling charges I don't mind if I get the game a bit faster or not. So, go ahead as planned.

    21. Robin Lees

I'm happy to wait. Unless you can 100% guarantee that any customs vat, duty & admin fees would reimbursed in full (don't worry even with a small package the admin fees bump the cost way above $2-$3!!!)
On the other hand, if the package is small enough, and the customs declaration completed correctly, then a small package might not be subject to any fees (here the break point is $15).

    22. The Game Knight on

I'm also happy to wait. And, Thank You for asking!

    23. Tasra on

      Happy to wait too :)

    24. Johan Lång on

I can wait. Have other games that I wait on already so one more is no difference ;-).

@V3G: What I've read up re: UK customs is that VAT is charged based on total cost - package value + shipping + insurance. :\

    27. Jens Kaaber Pors

Waiting here as well is preferable, since custom fees are High

Looking forward to receiving the game!

Thank you for the info. I really appreciate your efforts to bring us the game as fast as possible.
I have no problem with waiting a bit longer - I just need it during this summer (it should be a birthday gift in June).

    29. david fillis

      Think I'll just wait

    30. Steven Wellerling

happy to wait. more time to tremble with antici.............................................................pation

    31. Char Aznable on

Actually scrap that, I forgot about handling fees, I'll wait.

    32. Char Aznable on

UK here, I'd prefer to just have them shipped directly from the USA.

    33. Robert Dietze

      Waiting is ok for me.

    34. SimpleUser

      Happy to wait.

    35. Hermi

Stick with the original shipping plan from within the EU. Happy to wait.

In the UK the Post Office charges £8 administration, been caught before.
Thanks for the offer, but happy to wait.

      Andy Burgess on

      I'm happy enough to wait.

I appreciate much more that you've kept us informed as to the nature of the delays and what's going on with it.

That's priceless in terms of customer satisfaction. :-)

    39. Mark Horneff

If this incurs any vat at all no matter how low it will also incur a flat £8 handling charge for the post office, i have a lot of packages delivered from the states and can confirm this.

Shipping from the states takes roughly 2 weeks add to that the one week packaging and the net gain on time isn't that much.

Based on this i would rather wait.

    40. V3G 3-time creator

The value on the package would not be your pledge, but instead the manufacturing cost (price per unit). If that makes a difference to anyone...

    41. Jason Boyd on

      I'm happy to wait.

    42. Missing avatar

If there is no extra shipping cost, please sent it directly.

    43. Missing avatar

      Kikizosan on

In the UK at least, I'm under the impression that the VAT would be quite low (20% of total cost including shipping, so ~£4 for the $30 pledge), which is about $6 BUT that there would possibly be an additional handling fee. I'm hoping someone who's actually had to pay VAT on imported goods to chime in.

Even at just +£4 I'd be wary of direct shipping, but with potential for handling fees on top as well, I'm happy to wait.

It helps that I'm also not in a rush.

    44. David Wallin on

      waiting sounds good to me!

I would rather wait. Don't want to get stung with a Royal Mail "Handling Fee" which would not be incurred if they were distributed from the UK!

I'm in no rush, it'll get here when it gets here.
